Might be a long shot - DFW Chronograph?
As I said, this may be a long shot, but does anyone happen to have a chronograph in the DFW area that they wouldn't mind bringing to the range?
I am trying out a new powder, and I don't have the disposable income to buy a new crony that I'll use once every few years.
I usually go by posted data, but now that I am trying a new powder, and want to work up some loads for my 1911, I want to be exact.
I can't offer much, but I can pay a range fee or bring the Dr. Pepper or something or another.
MODS I am sorry if this isn't the correct place, but reading the descriptions of the other topic heads, they weren't really the correct place either
(P.S. MODS maybe we can make a get together forum?)

If you don't have any luck here, you could drive out to Top Gun Shooting Sports outside of Leonard, TX.
They will rent you their chronograph for $25 plus $100 deposit. (Just in case you shoot it.)

I need one to chrono my handloads.
I suggest to come up with one for CHL Forum per (big city). Good Idea!

If you were around Friendswood I could help you out, Dallas is a little too far for me to go shoot!

Well, I called Wileys gun shop in Wills Point, and they said I might be able to use one there. I just hope they don't charge $100 to do so

Well Wiley's said no. Anybody?

Maybe. An Oehler 35P complete set up runs to $600.Beiruty wrote:25% of cost as loan fee isPawpaw wrote:If you don't have any luck here, you could drive out to Top Gun Shooting Sports outside of Leonard, TX.

But you can buy one on Amazon for $82, with pretty decent customer ratings, but would need to add a tripod or other stand.
If I were the range, I would rent out the Amazon one.
I bought one for $100 back in the early 90s to do reloading work, found a tripod in a pawnshop, as well as a bag that both fit in, and it has been going strong ever since, which surprises me. For the price I didn't think it would last this long.
I'm sure an Oehler 35P is superior in all respects, but the cheapie I bought did OK by me. It was accurate/consistent enough that my competition loads gave pretty much the same speed readings when tested at matches as I was getting at home.
I know you (JR's 12 Valve) said you don't have extra disposable, but I recommend scraping around under the car seat and in the sofa for enough spare change to buy one of the cheaper ones. When I was reloading I tested rounds for every new lot of powder, even if it the same type from the same manufacturer, just in case. Plus it was fun. If nothing else, you could probably sell it when you were done with it and get a fair amount of your money back.
Or rent it out for $24.
(I would loan you mine, but I am not close to Dallas at all).

An expensive choice is this one: http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/ ... ph-107412/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I learned that a bluetooth version does exist and it comes with iphone or android app too.

Shooting Chrony has several different models around that price. Here is their homepage so you can get specs http://www.shootingchrony.com/index.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;ELB wrote:But you can buy one on Amazon for $82, with pretty decent customer ratings, but would need to add a tripod or other stand.
Midway carries them as well, plus a lof of their accessories http://www.midwayusa.com/find?dimension ... ionid=4023" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Might be a long shot - DFW Chronograph?
Thanks for the help and replies everybody!
It seems like I do need to clean out my couch cushions and the center console of my truck and scrounge up what change I can.
Is there any one chrony that yall recommend that will get the job done, yet will last a decent bit?

Your forum name makes me think you might drive a CTD.
