Demon possesed wireless keyboard?
I'm using an old (10+ years) Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse (MX3000) that periodically seems to be possessed. It randomly won't enter certain key strokes, then it will insert a string of characters that were not pressed. It has good batteries and the receiver is only about 10" directly in front of the keyboard. Nothing has been spilled into the keyboard, at least not in recent years, and the mouse seems to work fine.
The computer is only about a year old and I haven't noticed any problems with other USB devices.
Is this symptomatic of a failing wireless keyboard, or is the problem more likely with the computer?
Thanks,
Chas.

I have the 3200 model. You may need to:
1) upgrade or reinstall the keyboard drivers
2) re-pairing the keyboard with the wireless RXer.

We had those issues at our office and ended up believing (right or wrong) that it was all of the electronics interfered with the wireless communication, we ended up going back to wired.
I know this does not fix your issue, but at least you know you are not alone in the issues

Wireless devices are much more tempermental than standard wired devices. I agree that repairing the device is one of the easiest ways of clearing problems. Also, don't rule out batteries as being the culprit - they too are tempermental and just because they are new does not make the good. Finally, keyboards are not nearly the quality they used to be and wear out much more quickly.

Re: Demon possesed wireless keyboard?
Since the keyboard is so close to the receiver, it would seem that there's little benefit to maintaining the complexity of wireless.
I'd suggest a new wired keyboard to exorcise the problem.

I think the demon left yours and now has started doing the same thing in mine.

Sounds like you need some of this to take care of that possesed keyboard

It's probably interference from all your ham radio gear...
After ten years, it might be time to pick up a new wireless keyboard.

Charles - You got 10 good years out of it. Be happy it lasted that long and spring for a new one!

Re: Demon possesed wireless keyboard?
When I bought the keyboard, the Logitech Set Point software wasn't included with the drivers. I loaded that software and got a low battery warning, even though the warning light on the keyboard didn't come on. I had tried replacing the batteries before posting the problem, but apparently they were already very low.
Anyway, new software and new batteries and I'm back in business.

One thing's for sure - that keyboard doesn't owe you a penny!Charles L. Cotton wrote:When I bought the keyboard, the Logitech Set Point software wasn't included with the drivers. Re: Demon possesed wireless keyboard?
I finally established that my cell phone would cause random interference with my keyboard/mouse. I can hold my phone in a specific place and consistently reproduce the failures. Your problem may be entirely different, but it's worth testing.
Re: Demon possesed wireless keyboard?
The Logitech units that use the Logitech receiver have always been a problem in our house. I solved the problem by switching to Bluetooth keyboards. We had problems with random characters, random lost pairing, and about any other problems you could think of. At various times these were caused by:Charles L. Cotton wrote:I'm using an old (10+ years) Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse (MX3000) that periodically seems to be possessed.
Motorola and Samsung cell phones within 5 feet of the receiver
DVI cable being too close to the receiver
Metal mesh pen holder being too close to the receiver
Batteries that indicated good but tested (battery tester) as bad
Wireless (non-BT) headphones
Speaker being too close to the receiver
I still use Logitech products, but they are all wired or Bluetooth.
