I completely understand the ideology of concealed carry reciprocity, but if this bill passes, does this supercede State and local laws somehow? Will I be able to lawfully conceal carry a handgun with a 13 round magazine while in New York City as a result of this bill? Or would NY laws regarding magazine capacity still be in full effect? Any help to clarify would be great.
As written currently, reciprocity would apply to "any handgun" and "any magazine".
However, the bill sponsor made some contrary statements on Fox a few days ago... For me, the question is still unresolved.
I would love to have true sea to shining sea concealed carry ability, but am struggling with how this squares with 10th amendment. Sure would be nice to see the fine print so-to-speak.
2nd Amendment?

Not intending to be flippant.... Seriously... My 2A rights (and yours) are DENIED by NY and CA and other places.
This is a Constitutional issue, not a States Rights issue. YMMV
Good point, and well taken. I am not a Federalist. My ideology - right or wrong - is more aligned with the Articles of Confederation i.e. State's Rights. I am also a realist ... and it is state and local laws that prohibit a true sea to shining sea carry at present. There is nothing in the Constitution or any federal law that prevents one from carrying on the Interstate. I digress. Thanks for the thought provoking dialogue.

I smell something not right from the republicans claiming that the fix nics bill adds individuals to the no purchase list, or that it gives specific entities any more power than they already have. It has to be one of three things: 1. Our legislators really actually don’t read the bills for themselves (likely) 2. There is something hidden within the bill that we missed or cannot see (maybe written in, as displayed before?) or 3. The Rinos are showing their true colors (also likely).

I’m not a lawyer, and I don’t have very much experience reading bills (I’ve only read through a handful to be honest). After reading through the bill myself, I just don’t find any verbiage that gave myself the impression that we really lose anything. It seems that if someone were to be added to the no buy list due to this bill, they were already on their way to being on the list, and this bill really did nothing but expedite the process. In fact, I believe it says that the government would now have 60 days to correct the issue of being mistakenly put on the no buy list, whereas now people have waited years. I don’t agree with Americans losing rights without due process, but this bill doesn’t address that issue in any way (good or bad), that i can tell. I really have no problem with them doing a study on bump stocks as well. As little as rifles and rifle caliber pistols are used in crime, I find it hard to believe that bump stocks are used in much crime at all, to the point that it doesn’t worry me. Personally I’m pretty interested in crime statistics and would like to know myself.

I’ll listen to anyone’s opinion about it though.

Both of those murderers used rifles. Concealed carry is about handguns.

Oh, wait, it's the NY Daily Spews. Mea culpa.

The Daily News is going to run interference for the NY, NJ politicians who have stripped their own citizens of their 2nd Amendment rights. There is no way that the media is going to allow the fact that the NY, NJ, MD concealed carry permits are only issued as political favors to be spotlighted.

I will also say that much of the citizenry in those States has drunk the kool-aid. When I lived there, the general consensus was that only police should have guns. Worst of all the very idea that someone from TEXAS could have a concealed gun in their midst will make them froth at the mouth. I do recognize that South Jersery, the Eastern shore of Maryland and much of upstate New York doesn't share in that but all of those regions have been consistently over-ruled at the ballot box.

Louie Gohmert has it right. Listen to him on page 8.

Are we so eager to sell out on the combined bill, as is the NRA, so we can pound our chests and say we have National Reciprocity. I would not be surprised to see the Reciprocity portion stripped out and the Fix NICS (NIX would be more appropriate) portion survive and pass.

Memo to Mr Establishment, Senator Cornyn: If the Senate's most ardent gun grabbers, Schumer, Feinstein, Blumenthal, et al, cosponsor your bill, you screwed up big time.

:iagree: I'm okay with the President vetoing this bill should it make it to his desk. Fix NICS should begin by enforcing the existing laws and regulations that are being ignored, not adding more infringements.

Did you read the bill?
Please post one section that adds a new infringement. I can find none.
AFAIK the bill is entirely about enforcing existing law.

It will never be taken up by the Senate, other than to be buried in committee. Corker, McLame, Collins, Flake, and the rest of the surrender caucus will see to that and it would never get a cloture vote anyway with Schmuckie Schumer and Liawatha in the Senate. :yawn

It looks like the Republicans are working very hard to have a Democrat majority in the Senate.
