Cash America Pawn 30.06 Signs
I did a search for this and didn't find anything so if this has been brought up I apologize.
I travel quite a bit for work and have always loved to frequent pawn shops in the town and cities I visit. Guitars, guns, who knows what you'll find.
I've noticed that in all of the Cash America Pawns I go in, they have 30.06 signs on the wall either near or behind the rifles and shotguns. You would never see it until you were well inside the store, plus...It's in english only and doesn't conform to the law. Anybody else noticed this?

A neat trick would be to pick out something there they are real proud of (like maybe a beat-up Snap-On wrench set they are asking as much as you can get it brand-new off the truck for) and then point out the sign and say "I was gonna buy this, but since me and my cash money are not welcome here, I'll just leave."

I was just looking at the 30.06 page and found this interesting comment.

I just got an interesting reply to the email that I sent:
Mr. "AWorthyOpponent",
I’m sorry you feel that way, but sometimes decisions have to be made to safeguard our employees. This issue started after a few CHL holders came in some shops and told members of our staff they were carrying, two of them showed their handguns. I am also a licensed carrier, and you and I both know that these actions could have resulted in those customers losing their license. Also, many times over the years, I have had customers come in to pawn weapons only to find out these were loaded. One customer had his go off, wounding another customer. That is why all of our shops have a “no loaded firearms” on the front door. Regarding the CHL signs, if you read the State statute, you will find the signs we have posted are not enforceable, they are not the right size nor is the information printed in Spanish. This was intentional. If a CHL carrier enters our shop with a concealed weapon, we should never know it. We would hate to lose your business, but I sincerely hope this explanation helps. Please call me if you have any questions.

Re: Cash America Pawn 30.06 Signs
Oh, so despite some people's protestations to the contrary here, some businesses really DO knowingly post non-compliant signs to appease the ignorant while not having an anti-gun stance at all.
I've gone around and around with a couple of people over that issue before.
Pardon me while I gloat.

I believe this why we run into so many "non enforceable" signs.MeMelYup wrote: . . .Regarding the CHL signs, if you read the State statute, you will find the signs we have posted are not enforceable, they are not the right size nor is the information printed in Spanish. This was intentional. . . .
I just hope that the "managers" know they are unenforceable as well as the police that show up after they receive a call because a CHLer unintentionally exposed his pistol while reaching on top of a shelf, bending over, etc. . .

I'll gloat with you !

I've talked with store owners in the past who openly told me they posted illegal or non-compliant signs..... usually to fulfill an insurance requirement.
A few also told me they knew that knowledgeable CHL holders would know the signs were non-compliant.

Carlson,
After all my back surgeries, I haven't been able to bend over or reach a top shelf in a long time.... that's what wives are for, LOL !!!

Re: Cash America Pawn 30.06 Signs
It could also be the home office knows it is not correct while the local establishment does not.
Re: Cash America Pawn 30.06 Signs
Interesting...I am kind of surprised to hear an official response admitting they purposely posted a non compliant sign. I too wonder how well that would go down if push comes to shove. legally you should be fine of course but as many have pointed out you will still very likely take a ride if exposed as the intent could be interpreted by the officer as sufficient. I would still carry myself.

Who's gonna press charges if the business owner intentionally posted a non-compliant sign?Wes wrote:Interesting...I am kind of surprised to hear an official response admitting they purposely posted a non compliant sign. Re: Cash America Pawn 30.06 Signs
I'm not saying you would be charged, I'm saying that the owner can't be at every store so there is nothing stopping an employee from beleiving a chl holder should not be in the store and potentially calling the cops if someone exposed their carry weapon. It's like many situations, you might take the ride even though you are eventually let go.
