Alley Theater status?

Post by Divided Attention »

If this is in the wrong place, I apologize. I was unable to find this answer difinitively here or on the Texas 30.06 site.

Are there any issues with carrying at Alley Theater? We will be going soon and might not be in our own vehicle and don't relish a walk to parking at the last minute.

Any help greatly appreciated!

None known.

They're not likely to run metal detectors for the type of event that they typically put on.

If it's not too far why not just drive by during the daytime and get a look at a couple of doors and see if they are posted? I've done this with a few places I knew I would be going to in advance.

While not that far distance wise, could be an hour or more traffic wise; each way. In addition, I am not sure you can see the entrance from the street adequately to see if it were posted.

Here is what I found. If I am reading the CHL "bible" correctly as well as everything I can find here, this is not proper notification.

"Firearms are prohibited
The Texas State Legislature, in 1995 passed Senate Bill 60, which has been codified as a State law, VTCS art. 4413 (29ee). It permits Texas citizens who have obtained the proper license to carry concealed firearms. The same law (section 32) explicitly grants private employers in the State the right to prohibit their employees and visitors from possessing firearms on the employer's premises.

With this notification, the Alley Theatre is informing you that it prohibits firearms on its premises, and reserves the right to search persons, parcels and vehicles on same. This policy applies to all employees, patrons and visitors to the facility."

Thanks again!

I was there Monday night (03/07/2011). I observed no 30.06 signs in the parking garage, tunnel, tunnel entrances, or front entrances to the Alley Theater. I observed no signs of any type that even mentioned firearms, legit 30.06 or otherwise. There were no metal detectors. I carried with no issues whatsoever.

I just bought tickets for a performance there. *after* you buy the tickets, you're shown a confirmation page... and some verbage referencing 30.06, but not the words in the statute that are required on signage, and a warning not to carry at the theatre.

I went to hcad.org, and see that the property has an 'X1' governmental exemption from taxes? So does this mean they're a government building, and are prohibited from posting 30.06?

no it does not the alley theatre is owned by a private not for profit group, if the 30:06 required signage isn't there they can still tell you to leave but not stop you from entering unless the check you and tell you that you can't carry there
