Sorry to all the PhD's out there...

Post by Snake Doctor »

Here is a funny email I just received from my dad.

===========================

Well finally here is some stats that are useful.

Doctors:

(A) The number of doctors in the U.S. is 700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are 120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physicians is 17.14%.

Statistics courtesy of the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services.

Guns:

(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000 (yes, that's 80 MILLION).
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.001875%

Statistics courtesy of the FBI

So statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Remember, guns don't kill people, doctors do.

FACT: NOT EVERYBODY HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT ONE DOCTOR.
Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!!

Out of concern for the public at large, I have withheld statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention.
Nemo me impune lacessit.

Not to be so negative but this "email" re-appears on this forum pretty often. Also just an FYI Phds don't practice medicine, they teach. MDs practice surgery, and medicine (along with a few other advanced degrees). :thumbs2:

Was gonna second that, no biggie. My dad is a "Dr." but not the medical kind. Is always having to explain that to people. ;-)
Funny post though!

You're the second person I've run into who uses that term. My friend Henry also calls them Post Hold Diggers. Kind of ironic because his wife is one.

"Country dweller Zeb asked his city cousin Joe, 'What's the deal with all these people with fancy letters after their names? I don't even know what a PHD is.'

"Joe replied, 'Those show how much education the person has. If he goes to college, and spends four years there and works really hard, they give him a B. S. degree. You know what that means.'

"Zeb, being a man of the world, knew.

"'Then he goes to graduate school, works even harder and they give him an M. S. degree. That means More of the Same. Finally, after several more years, and a lot more study, they give him a Ph. D. That means Piled Higher and Deeper.'"

I always liked the story about the Drill Sergeant and his basic training platoon. He had a detail to do, so he lined the platoon up and asked them who had high school diplomas. Almost all raised their hand. So he asked how many had gone to college and about half raised their hand. He asked them how many of them wanted to get a BA degree and most of them still had their hand up. This time he asked how many wanted to get a MA and about ten raised their hand. Finally he asked how many wanted to get a PhD and only 3 raised their hands. He handed them Post Hole Diggers and started them on the detail.
