Question ? How much do you spend on Ammo and range fees

#1

Post by bat1 »

I was wondering how much everyone spends on Ammo, and Range fees, and how often do you go??

I just got stated on the great new hobby, or at least more interested not only for the hobby stand point but personal protection..

For Christmas my wife bought me a annual membership at the Texas city gun range, for both of us.. ($100 each $150 family) as many guns as you can carry.. There normal fee was $6.00 for each gun..

I figure I've been spending about $30 - $90 mo on ammo (now and plan) I find myself really enjoying going to the range.. I just wish they had better hours..

Whats so great, is my wife don't mind and she likes to go, BUT NOW she wants her own .38 revolver .

Sounds like you got a great deal.

When I first got my CHL, I defaulted to previous training (standing in a booth and shooting for accuracy). My local ranges charge about $10-15 per person. Assuming 2x per month = $20-30 per month in range fees + ammo (1-200 rds per month). Later when money/time were not problems, I participated with a couple of local shooting groups. They charged about $25 per session and that included the range fee. Doing them each week meant I was paying up to $200 per month in fees, not including ammunition (4-500 rds per month).

Today, since money/time are more of an issue for me, I do a LOT of dryfire practice along with airsoft & pellet. Going to the range is a monthly proposition at best and usually as part of a class so I can have sombody check me for bad habits.

For a variety of reasons, I've come to see ranges as the place I go to verify stuff (i.e. ammunition characteristics, point of impact, zero optics, etc...) or take classes. The majority of my training is done at home or in my back yard. With my work schedule and length of commute, I tend to miss out on the benefits of having a "local" range that I can visit more frequently. All that said...there is nothing better than decompressing at the end of a long week at the range.

I was going to the range 3-4 times a month. Now about 2 times. Range is $10 for all day no limit on # of firearms.
I shoot about 150-250 rounds on average. Hard to say what ammo costs, maybe $60. I buy ammo when I find a good deal or get coupons in the mail (Cabela's).

Good thing about living in south Austin is that Lonestar gun range is relatively close and an annual pass is only $65. Before ammo prices went up I was going out 3 times a month but lately only once a month.

You consider Lockhart close? I go to Reds in Oak Hill but it's certainly not $65/year.

Annual fee $75:00.
Reload ammo.
I have a few rounds left from my last time at the bench. :tiphat:
Our range allows us to bring our own paper targets so that is the cost of free paste board & printed targets on copy paper.

Too darned much! But its an addiction that I can't shake. Now the boss lady is addicted too. I suppose that we will ask our children to help us out while we deal with our habits. "rlol"

$30-$35 for ammo, $17 for range fees and targets twice a month. So that's around a $100 a month. :fire

Post the dollar amount per month on an internet board where my wife might see it?
