Houston: Bizarre arrow shooting

A woman entered a business on the northwest side of Houston around 3:30 p.m. today and reportedly shot a man with a bow and arrow. When police arrived, they shot the woman. Both casualties were taken away in ambulances, apparently still alive.

This story is pretty sketchy and still developing.

HOUSTON -- A woman armed with a bow and arrow and a mock gun stormed into a northwest Houston business Monday and shot an employee, according to witnesses. Julie Parker shot the victim, Armando Silva, with an arrow.

“I saw him with a bow and arrow in the side of the chest, just fading," said Alex Quiroga, the victim's co-worker. "The girl was running toward the building, the hallway.”

They said Silva was loaded into an ambulance with the arrow still sticking out of his chest.

"Yea, was pretty scary," said Mike Barrera, a witness. "I just seen when they got him out of the building there and he had an arrow on the left side and he wouldn't fit inside the ambulance, so had to cut the arrow off to get him in."

It happened Monday afternoon at Texas Components, a micro electronics company located at 1662 West Sam Houston Parkway.

Witnesses said other employees of the business pulled out their own pistols. They were able to knock the mock gun away from her, but when she allegedly threatened to shoot them with an arrow, they fired a couple shots at her.

“When police got here, I gave them directions of what I saw and they surrounded the area," said George Dustin, another witness. "They moved in, and then we heard a half a dozen gunshots inside.”

A Houston Police Department spokesperson confirmed that an officer did shoot 30-year-old Parker after a brief standoff. It's not clear why she was shot, but they did learn that her father worked at the company.

She was also taken to an area hospital. Both Parker and Silva are listed in stable condition.

Parker has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer.

Actually, that company has a no guns allowed policy. The guy with the 380 had the gun because he was showing it to a fellow worker. The other employee went to his car and retrieved his pistol. He says he was firing over her head to "pin her down"...LOL. Sounds more like he was trying for head shots and missed...anyway...the bad guy(girl) lost this time...thank goodness. One of the fellows involved in the shooting is posting about it on the arfcom forum. Guess he is feeling pretty sure he won't get sued. Crap...I was involved in a shooting in 1996 and i still won't make public statements about it...guess I am cautious.

If anyone wants to read his posts, he is posting it in the "hometown" area...Texas of coarse.

LOL...I don't think this level of comment would cause problems. I was referring more to giving details that could unwittingly create "issues".

Does anyone esle find this alarming. I understand we dont know what obstructions were in the way but I was taught not to shoot if you cant hit it. These strays could have harmed innocent bystanders. I think these 2 need to practice more and learn more gun saftey. As for pinning her down, she just shot a dude with an arrow and had a 'gun' SHOOT HER!

I'm sure all of the "facts" in this case are fluid at best. What bothers me is the "pin her down" statement. I can see the trial when the lawyer asks, "Why sir did you use DEADLY FORCE just to pin down the victim? You were not in fear for your life obviously. You actions could have seriously injured my client! In fact she is suffering from terrible Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome and will need 5 million dollars to cure it!"

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, reckless behavior such as this leads to stresses on the victims that forever changes their lives....BLA BLA BLA....

What he meant to say was "I was providing a volume of fire so that the other guy could get a better position to defend our escape rout from this derranged individual. At any moment she could have released another arrow or easily fired her gun into our exposed bodies. I was so frightened and kept shooting that we might stop, control or neutralize her attack that we might escape with our lives!" (All said after legal council review)

I Agree with the don't say anything to anybody theory. I am glad that so far, all have survived this event.

Just goes to show, You are not SAFE anywhere.

The guy should have kept his lips zipped, but I think he's covered by civil immunity for the justified use of deadly force. When someone has already shot a person without provocation and is nocking another arrow, it is undisputably a deadly force situation.

I have to point out that this story illustrates that simply being armed does not protect you. You have to know when and how to shoot.

We need to make sure the Anti's and BrandyBunch get wind of this. It's clear they need to broaden their scope to bow hunters as well. "We must do all we can to stop the national scourge of sharp, pointed sticks being bought and sold with the intent to kill!"

This just goes to show you, guns don't kill people...and evidently angry women with bows and arrows don't either. More importantly, it shows that not having access to a real gun will not discourage someone out to do harm.
