[Pre-paid legal service]

Post by RockingRook »

I am thinking about getting insurance to protect me the CHL holder in the event that I have to use my weapon.

I am looking at the [Pre-paid legal service] for $10.95/month. Does anyone know about this program
or any others?

I thought I saw the NRA endorsing a program a while back but I cannot remember which company.

Any info will be appreciated!!

Well, there are a lot of posts on that and that you found only 3 is amazing!

If you like buying insurance, then buy it. It only gives you a false peace of mind (as far as I am concerned) as when you need it, it usually tries to take advantage of you and not pay what it should (speaking of ALL insurance).

Look at the post just above yours. You will see that I said I found many.

On second thought I think here in Texas we have the Castle Doctrine which protects us from criminal and civil lawsuits
if the shooting was legal and justified.

I may be wrong but if that is the case we should not need insurance.

Yes but who is going to represent you for the Grand Jury that will determine if it goes further.

I guess that goes back to my original question. I do not know about any of this stuff so I ask
questions. Seems to me that if the shooting was justified under Texas law then there would be no charges
brought forth.

In the San Antonio area there have been a few home invasion shootings over the past few months and all of
them were ruled "no charges".

I guess if that is not the case then if confronted with a gun let him blow you away so he would face the
grand jury.

The case will be presented before a grand jury who will decide to either no-bill it, meaning they think there was enough evidence that it was justified, or they will return an indictment, meaning you will go to trial. Regardless of how justified you think you were, you will want an attorney for this.

When the news says no charges were filed, what they most likely mean is that the grand jury no-billed it. You actually want your case to go to the grand jury to give it finality. It will also help in establishing that your actions were justified in a civil suit. You can still be sued civilly, but the case should be dismissed, hopefully quickly, if you are able to show your actions were justified.

In a nutshell, it takes a Lawyer just to make sure that no charges are filed against you in the first place. Just look at the DA in Florida (of all places!) that tried to charge the guy defending his home with Murder.

Fine, then back to my original question is pre-paying a law firm a good idea or not? What have others done or are doing? I am given the opinion that hiring a law firm for $10.95/month is a waste.
The NRA has something but I cannot fully understand yet. Do you or anyone have opinions about this? I am a believer in "insurance" just in case but was looking for help here in which way to go.

I will do some more researching in this site as to what has been talked about in the past and decide from there.

Thanks!!

My totally unsatisfactory answer is that I do not have Insurance for this type of thing and do not intend to.

Actually I think it is a satisfactory answer. I was just trying to get input about this so I can decide.
I will research the site to see how others have felt in past postings.

Thanks!!

There is plenty of info on the site already. I have seen posts where Mr. Cotton says it is not a good idea to post and discuss things like this
on the site therefore I will not be posting here.

Instead I will look at the past info about this subject that already on the site and go from there.

Thanks!!
