Grab Your Towel, and Don't Panic

#1

Post by threoh8 »

A recent post in which trespassers apparently saw the poster retrieving his handgun from his car reminded me of one of my habits: I keep a towel in each car. Generally, the towels are old and worn out, and preferably very bland in color/pattern. Something the wife won't miss. My old GI-issue brown towels are about perfect.

One of the many applications is to obscure what I am doing. If I need to move something from the car that might upset onlookers, or something I'd just rather they not notice, I just drape the towel over, wad up the extra for camouflage if necessary, and go about my business. For example, sometimes one needs to disarm before entering a 30.06-posted area, or re-arm afterwards. In a busy parking lot, there are many eyes. A towel can obscure the lines of sight, allowing a degree of privacy.

Oh, and I can also use the towels to mop dew off the windows, clean up soda spills, kill reflections, make a neck pillow for passengers, etc. It's a multitasker!

As a transport technique, this is a variation of my grandfather's technique: When travelling (way before Texas had CHL), he carried a revolver in an old, greasy, wrinkled paper bag under the seat. It stayed put, fit right into the decor of his old car, and wouldn't likely grab a thief's attention.

I keep a towel in my auto as well. My car is black so my towel is black as well. Just looks good to me. I keep it mostly to wipe off my dash and other parts of my car that seem to collect lint. Works good for other things as well.

I keep towels in the car to wipe the dog off when he's been playing in the mud at the dog park before he jumps back in.

Mine are white, but maybe I'll switch to black or dark brown. Or.......look at Cabela's to see if they've got camo! :smilelol5:

:iagree: (Although I am not quite yet up to 30). I traverse the DFW area for work, and it definately helps to hide arming/disarming.

I do the same. Picked up a couple of cheap ones from Wally world that come close to matching my tan interior.

Yep! I was hoping someone would pick up on that.

Sorry for the delayed response. I missed your post somehow.

I keep a couple in the tour pack of my bike to wipe the bike off before a Patriot Guard Mission. I like a spotless bike when we are on a mission for a hero. :patriot: :patriot:

AND it works well for concealment as well.
