Whats the minimum caliber that must be used for the CHL course?

I thought it was the .380Auto but I heard something about the .32acp is now allowable?

Thanks.

Welcome moonpie. Why don't you post in the introduce yourself section so we can know a little about you.

Another "Welcome" Moonpie.

.380 was indeed the minimum when law passed in '95 and DPS wrote the rules, but they reduced it to .32 after a very few years.

I wonder what would happen if someone showed up with a 7.62x25 or 5.7x28?

We had a guy take his course with his FN/ five seven. Interesting gun.

I'm not up on all of the mathmatecial conversions, but seem to recall that 6mm is right in there diameter-wise with .243 and 9mm is .355. So wouldn't that put 5.7mm well under .32 caliber?

You are right. I'm a goober. It could not have been a five seven, so I called one of the other guys. He said the student qualified with a CZ 52 in 7.62x25.

It's tough getting old..... :headscratch

Comprendo on the getting old. A real female dog sumtimes.

And hey, I've pumped a Dillion to stuff just enough .308s to think that 7.62 ain't quite .32 either. I promise not to tell Riddle. Some sleeping dogs are best left alone. ;-)

Yeah, I don't think the instructor even thought about it until after class was over and the guy had gone home.
