Employer Parking Lots question

What was the reason for bringing in dogs to sniff his parking lot?

Not really sure but I think it might just be random as they have done it in the past but I haven't heard that they ever found anything until now with the handgun. There are several lots and they all were gone through with the dog.

Just curious as a place I worked at about 20 years ago was approached by the city police K-9 unit offering to do their parking lot for practice. The lawyers for the place of employment said no, to do so would constitute search without cause and there would be legal problems. Dogs never went through our parking area.
