You don't have to do anything before you take the class.

Re: CHL steps??
the only thing you need to actually do before taking the class is to find an instructor.
What else would I do, along with that?
1 - consider my background - do I qualify?
2 - start the application process
3 - get a carry gun (or a gun in general) if I did not already have one
4 - practice shooting with said gun (do I have to say safely and at a gun range? I hope not, but since I already typed it out....)
5 - order myself a good holster and gun belt, as that may take longer to get than the actual CHL
6 - could (but I didn't) read up the laws of CHL, so if you had any questions during the class, you could ask for explanation, or in some cases, even challenge the instructor if you interpret them differently than they do.
I am sure many other things you Could do... but actually do, just find an instructor... oh, and do so, maybe ask on here "I live in X area, who do you all suggest"
You may end up getting a fellow forum member, but even if not, at least if you get one via recommendation, hopefully it is someone who is good!
