Fee Reduced further for Vets & others....

#1

Post by Jilly »

This is one year old news, but some may not know this.
The Fee for Vets (and others) has been further reduced from 70.00 to 25.00.

House Bill 485
Effective: Sept. 1, 2013
Relating to the amount of fees paid by certain peace officers, correctional officers, members of state military forces, and veterans of the armed forces for a license to carry a concealed handgun and to the issuance of such a license to certain peace officers and members of state military forces; authorizing a fee.

Reduces the fee to $25 for certain peace officers. Full-time peace officers already pay a reduced fee. This bill expands the criteria by removing the requirement for the officer to be full-time. Peace officers who wish to pay the reduced fee must be employed by a law enforcement agency.
Reduces the fee for both an original and a renewal for veterans from $70 and $35 respectively, to $25.
Authorizes a reduced fee of $25 for correctional officers employed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). This new law authorizes a fee reduction only. TDCJ correctional officers may apply online under the special condition of “active peace officer,” but will be required to complete the required four (4) to six (6) hour CHL course. Additionally, these applicants must provide proof of current employment with TDCJ.
A new fee schedule is on the DPS website

When I took advantage of this they printed "VETERAN" on the face of the license. Do LEOs get something printed on theirs? Just curious.

IMO, that's still $25 too much. Thank you for your service.

The fact that the Veteran fee was reduced from the beginning, and then reduced further says a lot.
Someone is thinking of the Veterans.

Texas does not fail to impress me.

We are very blessed to live in this Great State. :tiphat:

I like everything about Texas except the college football teams. Moved here from Arkansas back in the 6th grade.

:iagree: It should cost the same as a voter card for all citizens.

Thank you for your comments Jilly, and welcome to the forum! Well put. I venture to say that not to many states in the U.S. honor their vets as Texas does. And what better way to honor a veteran than to recognize that the holder of that State issued I.D. served their country.

God Bless Texas.

When I got my CHL earlier this year, I was very pleased to see that "veteran" in red lettering was front and center on the license.

And yes, Texas knows how to honor and take care of its veterans. NY, where I came from, wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire as a veteran. Total lack of respect. Look at the elected officials up there and it tells you all you need to know.
