Sounds to me that most of the expenses were incurred due to poor legal advise. If you and your lawyer had obtained all the relevant paperwork prior to you jumping thru all the hoops (travel and evaluation expenses) then it would have been obvious that this was a simple clerical error. This should have been resolved easily. Looks as if you guys jumped before you looked. From my vantage point your lawyer is as much to blame for these expenses as anyone else.
