New Sig Sauer P320C & TW-25B Explosion!

#1

Post by remanifest »

Just picked up my new Sig Sauer P320C 9mm with Siglite Night Sights on an FFL transfer after purchasing from gunbroker. As some of you may know, I'm having to jump through hoops because the FBI is mistakenly identifying me as a fugitive from justice. Long story short, I tried to purchase a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield prior to receiving my LTC (literally a day before it arrived), and when I was run through NICS, some of my "characteristics" match some dude that's a fugitive, and now I'm jumping through hoops to acquire that firearm.

Meanwhile, this firearm is extremely nice - got it for a great price, and the FFL transfer could not have been easier (first one since having my LTC). I walked in, identified myself and the firearm I was there to pick up, filled out the 4473 form, they wrote down my LTC number and Driver's License number, logged it down in a logbook, I paid the $15 transfer fee, and I was out the door with my new Sig P320C. The whole thing took probably 10-15 minutes.

I haven't taken it to the range yet, but one thing that has surprised me thus far is that this firearm carries more comfortably than my Springfield XD Mod 2 Subcompact, which is a smaller weapon. I loaded the Sig's magazine up with my personal defense ammo, and there's something special about how well balanced this firearm is... the XD is great, but this Sig just feels like it's extremely well balanced. I feel like target acquisition would be extremely fast, but I'll have to run through some drills to tell for sure.

Now, about the Mil-Comm TW-25B explosion...
As I would do with any weapon when I receive it, new or not, I broke my new Sig down and cleaned it. The seller had obviously already cleaned it, but I don't know what they used on it - looked to be some kind of CLP, maybe WD-40 Specialist Long-Term Corrosion Inhibitor or something. Whatever it was, there was way too much of it in and around all parts of the firearm.

I did my normal routine, except I was able to break the firearm down to the grip module, slide, barrel, recoil spring, and takedown lever... effectively removing the "firearm", which is one of the main reasons I thought this would be a sweet firearm to own.

Once I had it broken down (~1 minute), I went to town with Hoppe's Elite, cleaned off the firearm as well as I could, and started putting it back together. Eventually, it was time to put some TW-25B grease on the slide rails. Since TW-25B is some thick stuff, I always have to squeeze the bottle like my life depends on it to get a tiny amount out. I was sitting there with the grip module and the slide in my lap, squeezing away, and I hear a distinct "pop". Immediately, I notice the top of the grease has come off, and I've got a huge glob of TW-25B on my shorts. After "reclaiming" most of the grease back into its rightful container, I worked on cleaning myself up, as well as my slide, which got a pretty large chunk of TW-25B on it. I spread it around the contact points, reassembled the firearm, and loaded it up.

Couldn't be happier with this firearm so far. As long as it goes "bang" at the range, we're good to go. I'll see who wins in the long-run as my EDC choice between the XD Mod 2 and the Sig P320, but these are two sweet firearms, that's for sure.

My one concern is the lack of safeties on the Sig. I am safe, and I use the safety between my ears more than I rely on anything mechanical. Can anyone share their experience with using this particular firearm as their EDC weapon? For now, I'm considering carrying it Israeli style - I'm extremely fast with that technique. Because my XD has the grip safety and the trigger safety, which do not get in the way or take much time to defeat if I do intend to use the firearm, I know that negligent discharges are extremely unlikely.

All I know is that both of these firearms are high quality weapons that I'm happy to depend on.

Been carrying one daily for about 9 months now. ~1000 rounds. Excellent all around platform to me. Carry well, very accurate and reliable. And the interchangeable components I believe make it possible to fit most any hand, and also anyone can find a comfortable place to carry it. No issues with not having a manual safety. As with any striker fired, be extremely careful holstering, especially with an untucked shirt... Congratulations on a fine purchase. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

I like my P320's, full and subcompact, even though the lack of external safety has my attention when I holster. Always, actually, but particularly when I holster.

On the other hand, I think that makes the gun illegal in California. The 12 round magazine probably does too, I suppose.

And if a gun is banned in California, it can't be all bad. :biggrinjester:

I often carry my P320. I like the capacity and I can hit with it. Be sure to clear your holster prior to bolstering, and adopt procedures to deny inappropriate pressure on the trigger.

Handled correctly, just like a Glock, they are very safe. Just never be complacent, and, of course, that's always a good goal.

Excellent to hear about the reliability with that many rounds through. I've got a medium sized grip shell, but a small would probably fit me better. They're out of stock almost everywhere, so I've set up a few alerts for me to be notified when they're back in stock. Thank you for the tips!

As a California native, I am very happy to now be in Texas. The biggest things I miss are my family & the beaches (sorry, Texas, most of your beaches aren't very good).

Two of my firearms are illegal in California, which will definitely prevent me from moving back there or traveling there for any extended length of time. I'd rather be free and know I have the ability to protect my family than to be subjected to the absurd politics of most of California's big cities. Thank you for the tips as well!

I have the compact in 40cal., and really like it. 200 rounds so far and no malfunctions. You may be interested in attending one of the Sig Academy Armorer classes for the P320. There's one scheduled for Oct. 4th in the Woodlands-Magnolia-Conroe area.

I have the P320C 9mm in FDE with medium sized grip. Only about 200 rounds of Remington UMC 115 grain and also a box of Hornady Critical defense 115 grain through but I still use my 9mm Shield as my EDC due to the fact i don't have a holster yet and also the P320 is a little too bulky for my summer clothes. But come winter time, I'll be carrying the P320 wherever I go. Enjoy my friend! :cheers2:
