crimes committed by ltc holders
Hello all,
This is my first post but I am always scouring the forum for information. Anyways, there are a couple of guys at my work who are totally against guns and the general texas public legally carrying. We debate daily about the topic. My question, does anyone have statistics on crimes committed in texas by persons who have a ltc. My objective is to show them that for every nut running around with bad intentions, there are 1000 law abiding citizens with a ltc. I am trying to show them that dps doesn't just give out a ltc to everyone. Thanks in advance.

You might, also, find the DPS "Dashboard" to be useful:jgarland123 wrote:Hello all,

Welcome to the Forum!!
Texas LTC holders are more abiding even than police officers in the State. Check the statistics on the DPS website Flightmare posted. They go back to the beginning of when CHL were first made available.
Not sure who you work with, but they definitely need to be educated. If you get the chance, take them with you to the range, and let them shoot. They will get to see that there are great people who enjoy guns, and maybe they will change their outlook.

I've taken a few people who were scared of guns, bordering on anti-gun to the range. Now they keep asking me to take them again. Education is the cure for ignorance.

Unfortunately, there are many more "nuts with bad intentions" than there are LTC holders. I like your wishful thinking thought.jgarland123 wrote:My objective is to show them that for every nut running around with bad intentions, there are 1000 law abiding citizens with a ltc.

And they pay for their own ammo after the first visit right?Flightmare wrote:

At my university police Dept we have student guards and a few who are international students who can't get downwind of a gun legally. It's always a trill to take them to the range and let them shoot a gun for the first time. They have a smile the rest of the week.Flightmare wrote:

These statistics are based upon DPS data, with additional analytical work/data. It's far more useful that the DPS data alone.bblhd672 wrote:Document compiled by Charles Cotton comparing crime statistics of licensees vs the general public (Texans)

Might I suggest the following enhancement to that analysis?Charles L. Cotton wrote:These statistics are based upon DPS data, with additional analytical work/data. Chas.
Show the difference between the Gen-Pop conviction rate and the LTC conviction rate as a percentage.
The difference by category is pretty impressive.
