Hunting Season
Given the fact that some 250 Texas counties are under burn bans due to the extended drought and tinderbox conditions, don't y'all think that TPW should delay this years' hunting season openings until a LOT of rain and colder weather descends on the Lonestar State.

Yes! Trinity is as dry as... well pretty dry.

I think it would be a good safe idea, but don't think it will happen, too much money involved. But then again, it costs a lot to fight fires and repair the resulting devastation.Oldgringo wrote:Given the fact that some 250 Texas counties are under burn bans due to the extended drought and tinderbox conditions, don't y'all think that TPW should delay this years' hunting season openings until a LOT of rain and colder weather descends on the Lonestar State.

Re: Hunting Season
What does dry conditions have to do with hunting seasons? As far as deer season goes, there is no food for the deer to eat. It's time to reduce the herd. I think everone knows camp fires are no go this year.
IANAL
Re: Hunting Season
How does hunting, in and of itself, cause a fire?
Every grass fire we've had on or near our property has been caused by some idiot driving down the highway and throwing a cigarette out the window.

Re: Hunting Season
Have there been fires, in the past, that have been attributed directly to hunting? I understand that there are other things that hunters do that my cause fires. Things such as cooking in the woods, smoking, driving ATVs/trucks in dry grass, etc. However, with or without hunting season, these activities happen every day.

Right! Hunting doesn't cause fires and guns don't kill people. For grins, check out this article in today's issue of our weekly er,...uh paper.

Re: Hunting Season
It says the fire could have been started by the vehicles catalytic converter. Good thing bows and guns don't have catalytic converters.

Re: Hunting Season
I don’t think it will be much of a “hunt” this year. The deer are coming to my front yard every day looking for food. I could easily sit in my rocking chair on the porch and shoot. My feeders out back draw many in. Not much of a sport.

Re: Hunting Season
Just finished a weekend hunt of white wing with quite a number of other hunters in Hondo. Almost all of us limited out, I did for sure, with no issues with fires or starting them. Not sure I see the connection. Our hunt was a memory maker with my son and sure glad we went. YMMV....

Same thing here, some NitWit throwing a cigarette out the window.
Other things to watch for...are pulling off the side of the road where there is tall, dry grass.
Catalytic converter on your vehicle can get hot enough to ignite dry tinder. The occasional lightning strike will spawn a fire too (not much of that happening right now).

What is this "lightning" that you speak of?flintknapper wrote:Pawpaw wrote:How does hunting, in and of itself, cause a fire?

That's swell; however, no one remembers the fires that didn't happen.TxA wrote:Just finished a weekend hunt of white wing with quite a number of other hunters in Hondo. I reckon those good 'ol boys who started the fire outside of Alto will remember it for awhile.

Oh well, to each his own...
Re: Hunting Season
I guess that's better than the fools that throw out their cigarettes. They will never know they started a fire. If someone tried to tell them, they would say "Oh no! It couldn't have been me!!!"Oldgringo wrote:That's swell; however, no one remembers the fires that didn't happen.TxA wrote:Just finished a weekend hunt of white wing with quite a number of other hunters in Hondo. We're never going to agree, so one of us needs to quit whining.
