Hunting Season

Just finished a weekend hunt of white wing with quite a number of other hunters in Hondo. Almost all of us limited out, I did for sure, with no issues with fires or starting them. Not sure I see the connection. Our hunt was a memory maker with my son and sure glad we went. YMMV....

That's swell; however, no one remembers the fires that didn't happen.

I reckon those good 'ol boys who started the fire outside of Alto will remember it for awhile. , I forot! They didn't start the fire, their naughty vehicle did.

Oh well, to each his own...

I guess that's better than the fools that throw out their cigarettes. They will never know they started a fire. If someone tried to tell them, they would say "Oh no! It couldn't have been me!!!"

We're never going to agree, so one of us needs to quit whining.

We're leaving this Friday morning before sunrise to go to our lease in Navarro county. We plan to be in the blind well before daybreak on Saturday morning. (We're an MLD III ranch)

This discussion amazes me. First, yea, according to a link someone provided, an catalytic converter started a fire. Shame on that person for not having his/her head screwed on given the conditions.
Not going to happen at our place.

Second, and more importantly, we've been issued an abundance of tags (based on our counts) compared to previous years. The herd must be thinned. If we don't take them, starvation will. There is little natural forage: berries, acorns, etc.

Our plan is to concentrate on the does during the first few weeks to take the stress off the bucks that's normally seen during the rut.

The amazing thing is....we're seeing large antlers on the game cams, and they're coming to the feeders. (again, because there is little to no natural forage)

We're fortunate, as we have the trinity river on three sides of our place. So, we have water. Many in the state are not so lucky.

As I've experienced first hand while dove hunting these past few weeks....no water = poor hunting.

That being said.....hunting does not cause wildfires. Idiots with cigarettes, lighters, and poor habits cause wildfires.

Some people don't see the deer very often and think they are always ok, or just kind gentle helpless animals. Ever see a deer fight? I'm not just talking about bucks during the rut, but does fighting over food. Mature bucks are coming to feeders this year, because there is no food out there. Thats something that almost never happens. This winter there will be a major deer die off.
