I just finished the 5th book, and am enjoying the series. A pity that the remaining two will likely come out over a period of the next 4-6 years. Definitely a series that exceeds epic levels though. One thing you learn though: Don't start liking a character. Next thing you know, that character dies  He definitely doesn't follow traditional "hero formula" storylines.

p.s. - The series is actually "A Song of Ice and Fire" (not "Fire and Ice"). Here's what each of the seven books are titled:
- A Game of Thrones, 1996
- A Clash of Kings, 1999
- A Storm of Swords, 2000
- A Feast for Crows,2005
- A Dance with Dragons, 2011
- The Winds of Winter, forthcoming
- A Dream of Spring, forthcoming

I finished A Dance with Dragons last weekend.
I'm looking forward to the 6th one being released, as he didn't do a good job of wrapping everythign up in the 5th.

Agreed, but my expectation is that the 6th novel puts all the pieces in action, then the 7th brings everything to a close. The 5th certainly had a LOT of cliffhangers.

Yeah I'm doubting the 6th resolves very many story lines.

I do hope that certain characters at least get to the continent they've been heading towards off and on since book 1.... ;-)

Other than that I'll keep my thoughts to myself so as to not throw about a bunch of spoilers.

This morning I read an interview with him. He says he starts out in the next book with the two wars that the other books were leading up to, the Slaver's bay war and the War in the Ice. He says he stops doing the splits he did in the last two books too. There are a few characters that I'm anxious to find out what happens with them but I won't mention them so that I don't ruin it for others who don't know who lives and dies yet.

I read a interview. I didn't do the interviewing. Search for Game of thrones in google and you'll find the interview and a preview chapter of the next book.

Hmm. I read that as "I did an interview". Im going to blame it on the allergies that kept me up late last night. :leaving
