Your first post was fine because it was discussing the lack of critical information concerning a suspect the police are warning about and asking the public's assistance in locating. The forum rule deals with blatant racist comments and discussions, as well as posts/threads whose sole purpose is to discuss race as a stand-alone issue.

I understand the point, but when one person is "obviously" one race/nationality... what then? Let's say for the woman, she appears caucasion (kind of hot, but hey I'm not here to judge on people's preferences.) We're not defining her as caucasian, but appears caucasian. Does that offend the criminial for what they appear to be, so we have to avoid saying it all together? Are we to the point where we have to do DNA testing to justify calling someone for what they appear to be? Isn't that why some forms you fill out they ask "asian/pacific islander" "caucasian" "african american" etc...? Can we at least say something like that without offending someone?

I don't keep tabs with Galveston Daily News, I'll take your word on that they aren't PC. (I think you read more news then everyone here combined... Oddly enough I get more news from your posts then elsewhere. :P) I was generalizing media for being so. In some news, and you may have seen some instances, where it literally is black and white but isn't reported as such. It's the little things that build up over time, we learn to accept it and next thing you know, we're a socialist country... oh wait too late...

It's not an issue if the criminal is caught, it isn't issue of race or nationality or whatever you want to call it. Warning someone that there is a suspicious character around but without some "obvious" characteristics is what makes me scratch my head. What do cops tell each other to be on the look out for when a crime is being commited or just committed? Watch out for male in a red nissan... just waste resources to pull anyone male in red nissan. Let's avoid the make of and model of the vehicle since it might offend the manufacturer... (yeah I know bad example...just being an rear.)

In that case, the Daily News prints the information. Other articles that I quoted in this thread explicitly stated that the suspects were white or Hispanic. I have read many other articles where suspects at large were described as black.

I don't know why the guy in the red Nissan was not identified by race. The most likely explanation is that the reporter didn't know because the police didn't tell him, and the police didn't know.

This could easily happen. The victim was an 11-year-old girl. She was confronted by Mr. Stranger Danger, who was in a car, maybe for a few seconds.

I can imagine the following interview with a police officer (which is another intimidating situation):

Officer: What race was the man?
Victim: I dunno.
Was he black?
No.
Was he white?
Maybe.
What color was his skin?
Kinda brown.
Was he Mexican?
I don't know.

At this point, he could be a tanned Caucasian, a Mexican, an Indian, a Pakistani, an Arab, or any number of mixed-race possibilities.

I also have to point out that the "suspect" in this case did not actually commit a crime. I don't think it's a crime to offer someone a ride. Police officers would have a hard time coming up with probable cause to question or detain him, let alone put him in a lineup.

We used to refer to these as to a male with a dark complexion. This allowed for all of the various possibilities.
