IP Ban

#1

Post by Dragonfighter »

I received my second "You have been permanently banned," message in as many weeks. This time I wrote the admins again and then noticed it was further detailed that my IP had been banned? Are we not allowed to use VPNs. I'm retired from dallas but still deal with sensitive information with the various cities and agencies I consult with. Having to turn off my VPN to access the forum seems antithetical to our "protect your identity" mode of operation.

I typically bounce off a Dallas or Houston server unless I need to research something elsewhere on the globe.

Anyone know what's going on?

I believe other people are using a VPN without problems. It could be that you're VPN is blocking the site.

I do not have much information for you however sometimes IP’s are blocked because of the awful content that shows up. Mr. Cotton is the only one who could help with this. I will shoot him a note and he will answer I am sure. I hate you are having this problem though.
Thanks

I was tooling along and got a ban. I wrote the admins and it was reversed. No such notation there.

This time I fiddled with it by using another browser and even incognito mode to read and the red fine print popped up saying it was an IP. VPN wasn't having a problem with it before, I just don't know. I'm not unintelligent but I am a card carrying Boomer. 😁

I see the same issue when using VPN.

Yep; the major commercial product I use, NordVPN, started blocking me whenever I used my default Dallas gateway. Haven't been posting much lately on the forum because of it. I found that entering via Phoenix or Salt Lake City allowed me in. It's just sort of a pain--since I have the VPN set to connect automatically at system boot--to go in, disconnect it, then reconnect via a gateway in another state when I want to come to the forum. Doable, just a hassle.

I sometimes get a ban message when using a VPN... sometimes changing servers fixes it, sometimes not.

We had real issues with some of the VPN’s and spam/porn showing up, so addresses were blocked. Just try another city until you find one that works ok.

No issues here, tried several Dallas servers just now, and they all worked. Currently connected through Helsinki, Finland.

I've been banned with the same message twice in the last 4 weeks myself.

Oddly, I'm cooking along fine on Houston at the moment.
