Suspicious items shut down Orlando terminal
Man detained at Orlando International Airport after acting suspiciously

ORLANDO, Fla. - A man planning to board a flight at Orlando International Airport was detained and questioned after Transportation Security Agency officers witnessed him acting suspiciously.

A subsequent search of the man's luggage turned up components for pipe bombs and other explosive materials, including unassembled pipes with end caps and metal ball bearings, law enforcement officials told the Orlando Sentinel.

The unidentified man was set to fly Air Jamaica to Montego Bay when the TSA noticed him, the paper's Web site reported.

"We're responding as if it's the real deal," FBI spokesman David Couvertier said. "It's a serious situation until we decide otherwise." The area around check-in locations for Virgin Atlantic and Air Jamaica were evacuated this afternoon, the OrlandoSentinel.com reported.

Officers established a 300-foot perimeter around the checked bag and the passenger was taken into custody, according to the statement.

The Transportation Security Administration says a bomb squad is at the scene.

Parts of a terminal were closed off. The TSA says flight operations are normal.
