This day in history - September 2

Post by seamusTX »

1789 - The U.S. Treasury Department was established, as Congress built the structures of government under the newly ratified Constitution. Pres. Washington appointed Alexander Hamilton to the position of Secretary of the Treasury a few days later.

1864 - General William Tecumseh Sherman's forces occupied Atlanta.

1901 - Vice President Theodore Roosevelt said, "Speak softly and carry a big stick," in a public speech.

For some reason, this proverb is often misquoted as "Walk softly and carry a big stick."

1944 - Navy pilot George H.W. Bush was shot down by the Japanese.

1945 - Japan formally surrendered, ending World War II.

1969 - The first ATM went into operation at Chemical Bank in New York City.

That reminds me of Curly's quote from City Slickers. I would cite it save for the granddaughter rule.

Still hoping paisley shirts and scarves never come back into style (ala late 1960's Beatles era.)

Guess that would disguise and cover a CCW pretty well; maybe better than a Hawaiian shirt. :smilelol5:

Edit to add: Get you some bell bottoms and a 'fro and you could look like the Mod Squad!

I still have my Nik-Nik shirts that I've decided to wear when we go out. I've had them forever.
