Galveston: midnight robbery on the beach

Two men were charged Tuesday in connection with the robbery of five people enjoying an early morning meteor shower at East Beach, authorities said.

Bond for Kenneth Bellotte, 27, of La Marque, and Noel Rodriguez, 17, of Galveston, was set at $40,000 each on two counts of robbery, Galveston police said.

The men demanded money and cell phones, but one of the victims managed to retain a cell phone and called 911. An officer stopped the suspects near Boddeker Road and Seawall Boulevard, police said.

The victims’ injuries from the 1:30 a.m. incident were minor, police said.

Noel is an unusual name for a man these days, and even more so with a Spanish last name. I always wonder about these things.

Sounds to me like a strong-arm robbery.

The victims are not identified at all. I can see if they were maybe a man, woman, and three kids, they would find it difficult to resist two young thugs.

East Beach is a dicey place at night. There are better places to observe celestial events, namely, the west end beach parks or Bolivar Peninsula.

Actually the story on the doughnut shop robbery was interesting to me. The bad guy's name is Jim Wesley Hardin.

Many people from Spanish-speaking countries are named Navidad, which is the Spanish equivalent; but that seems to be more a feminine name. Maybe his mother was French or Cajun. Who knows?
