Has anyone been to this show? Is it worth the drive from Austin? How many tables, deals etc?

Re: San Antonio SAXET
Last time I went was at least 4-5 years ago - mid 2000s? - and it was very much like the Saxet shows in Austin until they left, maybe a little smaller? But I think they've grown because they seem to have a new larger venue.
Re: San Antonio SAXET
It's pretty much the only show I go to. I've only been to one other and it was tiny and disappointing. Never been to a bigger one.
I'd say it's worth it, but then I'm the guy that drove an hour and a half to Austin REI just to buy new laces for my hiking boots.
They are no longer at the Freeman Coliseum, so I don't know how this weekend's show is going to be. I don't know if the new venue is bigger or smaller.

When I went they were at some Shrine Temple on 1604. When did they start using the Freeman?samobius wrote:It's pretty much the only show I go to. I've only been to one other and it was tiny and disappointing. Never been to a bigger one.

I am curious about how the gunshow will be at this new place as compared to when it was at the colliseum. Has anyone noticed if prices in general have come back down to pre-Obama prices? I used to go to gun shows and always found better than average deals, but the last few I went to almost everyone thought their stuff was made of gold. I mean several things were more expensive than I could get them from Academy.

I think this is the first or maybe second time at the new location. I went to one in December, at the Freeman coliseum. It was my first gun show, so I can't compare prices.Spanky wrote:I am curious about how the gunshow will be at this new place as compared to when it was at the colliseum. Re: San Antonio SAXET
Ditto for just shopping at Academy. Their prices are very competitive with gun shows and you don't have to wait a month for them to come around.
I do love gun shows for the accessories and what not.

Well, my official review of the new location is "not so great". Parking was never an issue at the Freeman coliseum. Yes you had to pay, but at least you could FIND parking. This place's parking was over capacity. People were parking along the street, even into the neighborhood behind the location. Cars were being towed because they parked in lots they weren't supposed to. I had my wife drop me off and she ran around doing things while I shopped.
I did find a great deal on a new comp IWB tac holster though. I'm very please with it.
The number of tables didn't seem to be any less than the coliseum, most of the regular vendors were there.
I think the parking issue is going to be a make it or break it for them though.

Re: San Antonio SAXET
Parking was absolutely stupid. The Habitat For Humanities store hired extra staff to make sure none of the 5000 cars parked in there 300 car lot so their 12 customers could make it. Then the Church that is CLOSED on Saturday put up their signs, about the time the resturant across the street got testy about their field parking lot.
The show iteself was good. Good a good deal on .45 ACP and bought a Ruger 22/45 Mark III target plinker. Good day over all.
As for driving from Austin.... only if you like going to a Gun Show that isn't shut down my Austin Police LOL couldn't help it..

I've always liked the SAXET shows, but can't for the life of me understand why they would choose the San Antonio Event Center for their new location. The building itself is probably big enough for the show but I knew parking was going to be a problem when I saw the announcement for the new venue, not nearly the capacity that the Coliseum has. I agree with the previous post that said parking might be what makes or breaks the show at this venue.

Re: San Antonio SAXET
At $120 dollars a tow - I have heard it all day. People are NOT HAPPY! The tow trucks were there this morning on my first trip and we still pulling cars when I went back 4 hours later with my wife. There is a real problem with the neighbors as their lots were EMPTY becuase they were towing folks. I won't ever go to that resturant, regardless of how well their food is. TOWING was not needed!

I got great deals on magpul pmags for my AR, and a good deal on some soft point brown bear 7.62x39 ammo. I thought the showing of vendors was decent but parking was not so great.
