What do you remember your parents saying to you as a kid?
I had a fun conversation with my brother about all of the sayings our parents had when we were a kid. Here are just a few:
** You had better wipe that smile off your face before I do it for you.
** Stop your crying before I give you something to cry about.
** Don't put that in your mouth, you don't know where it's been.
** Wipe your feet!
** Look at me when I'm talking to you.
** Don't you look at me like that!
** Did you flush?
** Two wrongs don't make a right.
** Don't talk with your mouth full!
** This hurts me more than it hurts you.
Ha!
What other phrases or sayings can you remember your parents saying to you when you were growing up?...

“If you try to shoot me, I will have to shoot you back, and I promise you I won’t miss!”

So I suppose if everyone jumped off the bridge, you would too?
Come eat - you don't know when you'll get another chance!
Did you know that 8 times 8 is 88?
Beware of Greeks wearing sneakers.
The operation was a success but the patient died.
Lazy Mary, will you get up? We need your sheets for the table!
(when we were sleeping too late)
You're not sugar - you won't melt! (when it was raining)
Your mother and I have a mixed marriage - she's white, I'm Italian.
If you don't have anything nice to say about someone, don't say anything.
Doesn't anyone ever shut the lights out in this house?
Save the pieces!! (When something loud crashed to the floor)
If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.
That's way 'round Robin Hood's barn.
(Talking about taking an indirect or very lengthy trip somewhere.)
Are there bones in that water? (If you choked while re-hydrating).
That's the part of the chicken that went over the fence last. (dark meat reference?)

You want a drink of water? I do. I'm so dry I'm spitting cotton.
Don't go barking up the wrong tree.
I'm as wide awake as a tree full of owls.
When you're riding out in the pasture, don't go near the bulls. They're onrey.
Do NOT shoot toward the butane tank! It'll explode like a bomb if you hit it! (I think it was actually LP, but for simplistic sake we called it butane.)
Turn off the lights when you leave a room!

The Minnesota version of this one is "Are you trying to heat up the whole neighborhood?"

When I was a kid we never had air conditioning so it was more along the lines of "close the door, you're letting all of the flies in!"LarryH wrote:The Minnesota version of this one is "Are you trying to heat up the whole neighborhood?"joe817 wrote:Are you trying to air condition the whole neighborhood?
Of course, there's always the ultimate threat - "Wait until your father gets home!"
