Someone fresh my memory. Where was it, what demographic pool, was it from which the census workers were largely recruited?

It was in Pekin, Indiana, and this particular census worker is a 39 year old white male. The victims were a mother and her handicapped 21 year old daughter. There is nothing else in the story about he accused, except that he has two daughters of his own, he lives across the street from a middle school, and he has been employed as a census worker for 2 weeks.

I was unaware that the census workers were being largely recruited from one demographic pool.

Here in the Fort Worth area, the recruiting locations were located in some of the worst parts of town. I thought about applying, but frankly, I did not want to go the areas where they were interviewing. I bet I am not the only one who felt that way. The census workers were background checked, but if the recruiting was done in parts of town where nearly everybody has a close relative who is a gang member or drug user or has a criminal history, I don't put all that much weight on the trustworthiness of the worker who happened to pass scrutiny. Not having a criminal record does not guarantee a person is not a criminal. Of course, living in a drug infested high crime area does not guarantee you are a criminal either. Still, if one comes to my door, I will be on the alert same as with any stranger.

The one visiting my house looked like a broke college student with a smattering of hippie. I wasn't all that afraid as she was pretty tiny - however she wasn't happy when I didn't give her much info. I said my roommates could answer all those questions but the nature of my employment is such that I must keep my personal info private (half true anyway). I don't want census workers or anyone else to look through that pile and say "hey - that guy arrested my cousin where does he live?"

I gave her bare minimum info about we rented, we worked, we lived. No thank you, you may not have my name.
