"Houston, Tranquility Base here, the Eagle has landed..."

42 years ago today, Michael Collins, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Neil Armstrong landed on the moon. A mere 66 years after the Wright Brothers' flight at Kitty Hawk.

Slight correction.......... Michael Collins did not land on the moon on that flight. As the Command Module Pilot, he stayed with the Apollo spacecraft in moon orbit, while Armstrong and Aldrin took the Eagle down to the lunar surface.

Still, Collins had a difficult job to do, and he had to do it alone. I'm sure that, given the chance, he would have jumped at the opportunity to land on the moon, and he remains today one of only 24 people in all of human history who have flown to the moon.

Whoops! As a certifable NASA geek, that is embarassing. You are correct of course. Sorry for not being careful enough. :???:

I was going to edit the original post but I'll just leave it as is.

I am bitterly disappointed that we can't buy tickets to the moon on Pan-Am.

Hard to believe it was that long ago. I remember exactly where I was when I heard those words.
