"At Last" by Etta James.

Yeah, it's almost a musical cliche now, but listening to Etta James sing the original transports me to ecstasy.

Absolutely, even though it reminds me of my Ex.

Like many, songs can evoke a strong emotional response from me. There are many I associate with different events in my life.

A short list off the top of my head:

Held by Natalie Grant - I heard this song on the radio after learning my grandmother passed away. I lost it after hearing the first few notes of the song but it was one of the most cathartic things I could have heard. I knew then and there she was no longer in great pain and was truly held by the arms of God.

Mendocino County Line by LeAnn Womack and Willie Nelson - When my girlfriend (who'd one day be my wife) and I were still in high school, we heard this song on the radio while driving along the coast of Bodega Bay. It was a perfect day and the song always takes me back to then.

Save Me San Francisco by Train - Reminds me of where I grew up.

Heartland by George Strait - the day I found out we were moving to Texas, I put this on the CD player. It's a reminder for me of what is now home.

You Raise Me Up by Selah - just a powerful song that never fails to give me goosebumps.

Sleepwalk by Santo & Johnny / Time of the Season by The Zombies - I grew up listening to a lot of the local oldies station and both of these remind me of the trips my mom and I would make to visit my grandparents in southern California.

Long Black Train by Josh Turner - great song with a great message. Goosebumps again.

I'm sure there are more.

John Prine - “Hello in There”

Ya' know that old trees just grow stronger,
And old rivers grow wilder ev'ry day.
Old people just grow lonesome
Waiting for someone to say, "Hello in there, hello."

So if you're walking down the street sometime
And spot some hollow ancient eyes,
Please don't just pass 'em by and stare
As if you didn't care, say, "Hello in there, hello."

There are one or two Garth Brooks songs that I enjoy, but one that always twists my soul is "The Dance" mostly because it was one of the last songs my late wife and I ever danced to.

This is funny. A few months ago I was listening to a CD of 60s songs that I had made for my brother and I couldn't remember the name of this song. There were a lot of popular Top 40 instrumentals back then. Since TAM is of that era, and also a guitar player, I knew that he could supply me an ID for the song. TAM remembered the tune, but still couldn't give me a title. I continued to search the internet for popular instrumentals and finally found it on youtube. One of the reasons it told me so long to find it was I was only searching songs from 1960-1965. It was actually released in 1959.

I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

I could stay in this thread for a long time. I'm a sucker for good lyrics.

My grandma passed away when I was 13, and my grandpa passed away six months later when I was 14. The narrative of the song doesn't line up with their story, but it came out a few years before they died and always got me to reflect on how much I missed them and how much they loved each other.
"Love Me" by Collin Raye

When life in the suburbs is about to suffocate me. . . a country boy at heart:
"In My Own Mind" by Lyle Lovett

My wife and I love to dance to this song:
"No Kinda Dancer" by Robert Earl Keen

A relative mine, a legend in his own right. . . if you haven't heard of him and are a fan of country Gospel or true Western / Texas swing, a lot of his songs are on YouTube. He's also played on the Willie channel on Sirius. They played this song at his funeral last year:
"Where the Roses Never Fade" by Joe Paul Nichols

Too many hymns to list:
"Leaning on the Everlasting Arms"

"Turn You Eyes Upon Jesus"

"Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus"

I'll probably be back in this thread before it's all said and done. Enjoying watching everybody else's videos, too!
