a great Minnesota garage band from the 60's. The Gestures.

and I've always loved The Zombies.

and last, but not least...The Left Banke. My Mom told me about the time they came to her high school in Bed Sty Brooklyn, performed a few tracks, and were promptly arrested for marijuana possession.

If Chip Taylor looks familiar, it may be because he's the older brother of actor Jon Voight.
Chip also wrote the songs "Wild Thing" and "Angel of the Morning."
His partner on this album "Let's Leave This Town", Carrie Rodriguez, has gone on to make several solo albums.

The biggest country singer from Scandinavia. Heidi Hauge was born in Norway.

She sings the Burt Bacharach song "Trains, Boats and Planes"

One band that I've been enamored with over the past 8 years or so is Calexico. When I discovered them, it was if they had created the perfect music for me. Being a fan of the desert, and the southwest US, there really wasn't any music (aside from Ennio Morricone) that put those pictures in to music...until I found Calexico. The core of which is two guys from Tuscon, and they collaborate with Mariachi's, a few others from TN and Germany, and somehow it all works. They incorporated traditional Mexican music instrumentation and rhythm in to a sort of indie-Americana fusion of rock, country, pop, surf, etc. Here are a few of there tracks that I am quite fond of.

Quattro (Worlds Drift In)

Minas De Cobre

Wash

The Ride

Para (Off of their upcoming album...a little different than their past stuff, but it's real mellow and sounds great!)

I think that Bob Dylan's "Romance in Durango" is his version of Marty Robbins' "El Paso"
