This thread is about songs that "speak to you". IMO, music is very personal, so what works for you may not work for me.
The Beatles wrote and performed many songs that speak to me. In fact they learned much of their early stuff from people like Elvis, Bo Diddly, Chuck Berry, Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly. Other "British Invasion" groups such as the Rolling Stones ripped-off most of their early music from the great American rock and blues artists.
Once in awhile the "noxious metallic noise makers" have also made good music. There are also some left-wing musicians whose politics I don't like, but they still make good music.
For example Canadian Bruce Cockburn wrote this song when he was in Nicaragua - "If I Had A Rocket Launcher"

I doubt many of you will like this stuff, but I enjoy it, so there ya go....
I have several really good friends from my hometown. Now that we're scattered all over the country, the only way we really stay in touch is playing computer games together and chatting over teamspeak while we do so (a VOIP service). One of the main games we play is StarCraft 2. Dubstep is great music to listen to while you game. It fits into the game, doesn't distract me, and flows well.
Two of my favorite "dubstep" style songs.
First one is a dubstep remix of the video game music from the NES game "Bionic Commando".

My own family ancestry is pretty much pure German, but my wife has a VERY strong Irish heritage. Her name is Shannon for a reason, if that gives you any hints as to how Irish her family is.
This song always makes me emotional. The idea of having to leave your family land to foreigners while you flee across the sea is heartbreaking.
