I walked it along I-30 East of Dallas, I-40 East of Little Rock and up I-81 I collected repeaters and programmed my radio for a trip that I took recently. It worked well and I was able to hit most of the repeaters that I selected along the way. I can tell you that there is a lot of dead air on the 2M band in those areas.

For programming, you might consider CHIRP. The idea behind it is to standardize programming across multiple makers. I haven't switched to it myself yet but am considering it. I'm working with a group that has all different kinds of HTs and we want to develop a channel list that is consistent across them for the 146/440 repeaters in our area.

The caveat being that they only list coordinated repeaters. There are some out there that aren't coordinated. Also, some coordinated repeaters only exist in their database, but they are trying to clear those out to free up those frequencies.

I created a list of the weather related repeaters along I-35 from the Red River to San Antonio and about fifty miles wide for our local hams. I have the software to program some of the more common radios (of several years ago) and if you are near Belton you might contact me... jbdvex@gmail.com

I am also the trustee of a very wide area repeater (147.140, pl123) that covers from the 'Y" north of Hillsboro to Round Rock (north/south) and Hearne/Bryan-College Station to San Saba (east-west). the repeater is located at 1600' agl east of mm 314 near Eddy. We have Echolink connections with the Fort Worth Weather Service during severe weather events. (we also do not have the restrictions on who can make weather reports that the DFW area has.)

Do not try to use Echolink on this repeater unless you are on my good guys list (restricted to weather related spotters and weather service.)

We also have sister repeater (145.310, pl 123) located 100' lower that has open Echolink and with almost identical 70 mile radius coverage...
