Letter Carrier won't pick up a Letter???

Post by puma guy »

Up until a year and a half ago I've had the same postman ( Ok for the PC - Letter Carrier) for 10 or 12 years. He did a great job, but for some reason they moved him to a different area. I asked him why and he didn't know , but he was very frustrated. I never got mis-delivered mail and I could just tell him when I would be out of town and he'd hold mail for whatever period. Now I never have the same carrier, get other people's mail often and I know have items that were never delivered or maybe delivered to the wrong house and not sent back or brought to me. I have gone without mail at all for a couple of days and then get a box stuffed full. I've had mail delivered as early as 9:30 am and mail delivered as late as 7PM. I've had mail delivered twice in one day when the carrier apparently missed one in the pouch. Today I left a letter on the box to be picked up and it was still on the box after my mail was delivered. :banghead: And yes it was stamped and legibly addressed. Why change the system so drastically when it makes no sense to remove someone familiar with the "client base" and provides outstanding service? Is this the new USPS?

I have been going through everything you describe for the last 8 years, it is the new normal. But hey lets raise the price of stamps.

My Rural mail carriers ROCK, no complaints. Mail gets to the right box.. They pick up the USPS Priority packages when i schedule a pick up (3 or so times a week).. About the only issue I have had is a late notice of delivery attempt... ie tried to deliver a signature USPS package on Tue .. I was not home... so the card was written,, but not left in the box til WED, meaning I did not go to the PO until Thur.... so I lost ONE day on delivery time.

Not that long ago I took off work because of an important package I was expecting. Around 2:00 I check the the mailbox only to see a sorry we missed you note. Now I was home all day and the doorbell never rang.
I called the post office and complained until I went up he ladder several rungs. I was assured that they would deliver it the next day. When I explained that my neighbor had seen the carrier drive past the house without getting out of the truck they paid someone overtime to bring it out that evening.
I'm sure the carrier was not disciplined. This is the new USPS.

I don't think I have had the same carrier two weeks in a row for 10 years. Good thing is I do not leave a Christmas bonus cause I never know who to leave it for

We have those lockboxes that we have to walk to. Mailman puts package in lockbox, leaves key in someone else's box and they are on vacation. I get an email saying the package was delivered. Not to me of course. I leave a message in my mailbox for the letter carrier and ask him where is the package? All of a sudden the key is in my box. I never walk back from the box without checking the names on all of my mail as usually there is one letter that's not mine. I have had to change bank accounts because of misdelivered and opened mail. UPS and Fedex are great. We need to junk the USPS and their crummy service and let a private service take over. Most of the carriers I know are so depressed now they just don't care what happens. The digital age is putting them out of business. I get my office mail at a post office box. Sign says all mail will be in the box by 10:00 am; it never is.

Our weekday guy is great but will be retiring very soon. I'll sit out and have a 15 minute chat with him. When he is on vacation or Saturday, we have a different guy that could care less.

We have the lock boxes too. I will say that we've rarely had a problem with a misdirected letter but I swear there's never the same carrier doing the mail two days in a row. My big problem with USPS are the hours. No way I could ever get there on time to pick up a package on the weekdays. Many, many years ago I got a UPS store (or the like) box.

Odd man out here (well, I'm an oddball anyway  ) In all my years (71) those years dealing with the USPS, both as a private citizen and in business, I have never had a real issue. Sure, once a year I might get a letter in my box for someone else, but it's quite rare. Yes, my mail deliver times have fluctuated at times. As for the price of postage, I have a letter to deliver to my friend in Alaska where I used to live. I'll offer the same rate, to anyone accepting my offer to deliver it for me, as the USPS charges - door to door in 3-4 days. So, my offer is $.46. Pick it up at my house tomorrow and have it there ASAP. :biggrinjester:
