Another TX leo down

Post by texanjoker »

RIP brother! I worked a few cases out there and the Burleson County Sheriff's Office is a good group of LEOS. Praying for the family and dept.
Burleson County Burleson County officials are confirming that Sergeant Investigator Adam Sowders has passed away due to injuries he received during a warrant service at a home Thursday morning.

It happened at 5:50 a.m. on County Road 278 south of Snook.

According to the Burleson County Sheriff's Office, the officers entered the home and someone inside opened fire on them.

I wish the article gave more details about how the warrant was being served. I've made my strong opposition to so-called "no-knock," "feather knocking," or "knock & kick" entries known and I hope one such entry didn't cost this deputy his life.

Prayers for the deputy's family.

Yes, they are a disaster not only for the LEO who paid with his life, but when it is a no-knock warrant served at the wrong address an otherwise law-abiding citizen believing they are defending against a home invasion can also find him/herself either killed or his/her life destroyed.

Back to the original subject, RIP, he is in my prayers.

Horribly sad for this family. My condolences go out to them.
If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you carry a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?

Sheriff giving a press release. Glad he is tight lipped vs. the way Austin runs their mouths without knowing what happened causing fuel to the media frenzy. No wife or children. Thankful for that.

Folks,
Adam Sowders is the son of my sister-in-law's sister. I think that makes him a nephew to me by marriage.
Though I have never met Adam, I want my TexasCHLForum friends to know that Adam's Mom, Ann, is surrounded by family now and that they all appreciate the outpouring of support and concern throughout Burleson Co. I am personally pleased that the DPS is helping with the investigation and I have confidence in the validity of the investigation. Kudos to the other law enforcement agencies helping out and the professionalism of the Sheriff.

Once again thank you for your kindness and prayers for Ann.

Well since it was 8 of the 9 total officers in that county and they were serving a search warrant not an arrest warrant it seems likely that it was a no-knock or quick knock warrant. Reports I have heard is that the Deputy was first thru the door and took a shotgun blast to the face. The shotgun used was found lying in the middle of the main room and two suspects had taken cover in a bedroom saying they were hiding after hearing a gunshot. A man has been charged and is being held on a million dollar bond. Yes Dynamic entry is more dangerous to both the suspect and the officer but should we conduct the HR Search Warrant to obtain the evidence needed to prosecute the subject and possibly get officers injured or do you throw our hands up and allow these
dangerous subjects the ability to continue their criminal enterprise? I'm all for limiting the damage to everybody but I don't think any tactical approach is always without merit or that the blame for the shooting should go anywhere but the bag guy without more evidence than supposition.

Is this really the appropriate thread to debate tactics?

My sincere condolences to the family and coworkers of the fallen officer. It really hits hard in a small agency and small town like that.

No it is not! I regret throwing my comment about methods of entry into my post. That's a topic for another thread; this is a memorial for a fallen officer.
