The above link is to an article in Mother Jones magazine about the product placement of various brands of
guns in Hollywood. Ignore the "anti" snarkiness of some of the article and watch the 4 minute video of a
variety of guns used in Hollywood movies.

One of the guns in the video was news to me. During the run of the TV show "Miami Vice", the detective
used a "Bren Ten" semi-automatic pistol. I was aware of "Bren" guns used by the Brits during WWII, but I
was not aware of this handgun.

Don't anyone try to buy a "Glock 7" - it's a fictitious model.

Glock's 1990 appearance in "Die Hard" was attributed as the reason that Glock sales rose appreciably.

The more recent "Lone Survivor" movie was allegedly paid $250,000 by Beretta.

I made a comment on that article about a year ago.

The original article kind of lacks credibility in that they could only come up with those few examples and they even had to include the obviously bogus "Glock 7, porcelain, undetectable . . ." in order to increase the count.

Maybe the gun manufacturers do pay for product placement, but unless they are mentioned by name, it's awfully hard to tell them apart at a glance unless you already know them well enough, which usually means that your first thought is "Why did he choose a "Big'n'banger" when he could have used a "Pocket Thunder"? Heck, we have even had threads on here debating why such and such a character would use a particular gun. And then there are all of the shows that they forgot to mention, such as that Wyoming Sheriff who carried a 1911 uncocked, and why would they forget John Malkovich's home made plastic gun in "In the Line of Fire"?

If it really was a product placement thing, we would see a lot more of it. I think it's just the producers, directors, and writers impressing their anti-gun propoganda on the viewing public, kind of like politicians calling every long gun an "assault weapon."
