Why do so many post avatars?

Why do so many not use their photo? Seems to me that everyone would be proud to stand up and be themselves.
...for as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom – for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself. Arbroath, 4/6/1320.

Everything posted on the Internet is forever. Why wouldn't I want the opportunity to express myself without worrying that a possible future employer would take offense at an opinion I express today when they read it three years from now?

I know my kids don't have any concept of privacy as they post their lives openly on facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. However, I do maintain a certain degree of public anonymity.

Exactly, not when people use your opinion 10 years from now to prosecute you with. No thanks. :biggrinjester:

It doesn't bother me that my employer, or anyone else for that matter, will see what I looked like in 1968, and what I was doing.

Don't have any decent pictures from the last 10 years. Earlier pictures would be false advertising.
If the 2nd admendment only applies to muskets and muzzle-loaders, then the 1st admentment must apply only to the spoken or printed word. Printing must be done on hand presses, news stories must be written in longhand, no keyboards or electric processes may be used.
