That's not so much of an issue now, but between wars when the public's memory has grown hazy about what the military is for...things can get a little uglier around military bases than the usual civilian - military tensions.

You get hoary tales like, "Dogs and Sailors not allowed on the grass" and wearing a uniform off base was something you thought twice about.
That sign was still posted on the lawn, where you had to go to get a marriage license in Norfolk, Va., in 1972.

Where does the word' Veteran' appear on the Tx DL and/or CHL?

On the CHL the text is in red above your CHL #.

I'm proud to be a veteran. This wasn't an option the last time I renewed my DL. Adding it was not a problem. Down to DPS with a copy of the DD214 & $11, and it was done. Having that veteran designation on the DL also gets me 10% discount at The Home Depot ( which I appreciate ).

Heck, the Ace Hardware (big store) in the small community I live in does not require anything. You tell them you are a veteran and bam, 10% off. But they were always a good neighbor to the community.
