Anyone done any camping out there? Looking at taking a trip. How'd you manage without a ground fire? Anything to look out for when carrying there?

You need a pocket rocket (or a similar small stove). We have not camped at big bend, but rather in places with fire restrictions during certain times of year. Good luck.

I've camped in the interior of the park several times. Nothing really special about carrying there.
See: http://www.texaschl.us/faq.htm#stateparks" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You do have plan a gallon of water per person per day, and that adds a considerable amount of pack weight.
Typically we are at 50-55 lbs pack weight out of the gate for day one.

If you're leaving from the Lodge parking lot, that is a nasty climb the 1st day with full weight heading for the interior of the park.

Good luck and enjoy! It's a truly beautiful place to go for a hike.
