The trimmer comes with 6 speeds and I find it trims and edges just fine on speed 2. Using this speed promotes longer battery life and the performance at this speed is great and less noisy to boot.

The 6 speed blower does a great job too. No, it's not as strong as gas or electric, but it's plenty strong enough and it's lightweight.

While they both make noise, it's far less than gas or electric.

Not having to have a gas mix or a long electric cord to mess with is a dream.

The hassle they save and their performance is great.

I get my exercise with free weights and cycling, plus tree pruning and digging out stumps cuz they haven't invented any better technology for those chores, but I do on occasion have professional tree surgeons over...
Sure they have, it's called explosives.

HD also carries the EGO brand, they use 56v. My mom's friend purchased a mower from them that I mow her lawn with in town, it has been consistent on the battery for the first year. They come with a 5 year limited warranty. So far I like it (well as much as one can like an electric mower .... I use a gas powered at home). They carry blowers/trimmers as well.

VMI77,

You are correct sir, but much like using explosives to harvest fish, it just ain't sporting.

Plus, I'm something of a glutton for punishment as I actually enjoy the digging, root cutting and the sense of accomplishment.

I cycle past yards with stumps in them and I'm getting close to having none left in my own, so I'm thinking of volunteering to remove those.

Weird, huh?

loktite,

Thanks for the heads up on the EGO brand.

If my B&D's crap out early, I'll give the EGO brand a try as I've fallen in love with battery powered trimmers and blowers.

I use a B&D 20 volt string trimmer and a small blower that I got as a package deal a couple of years ago. The trimmer works okay as long as you don't let the grass get to tall and tough. If I stay on top of it I can trim about half my 1 acre lot on one battery. The worst part is after using a battery continuously it won't charge until the battery cools down. On hot days it may take an hour before the charger will kick in.
The blower will last only about long enough to do the rear patio, front sidewalk and the close in parts of the drive way.

There have been a few times that I have wished that I had repaired my 30 year old gas Weed Eater instead. But with arthritis in my hands and wrists it was getting painful to start it.
