The above link is from the 9/12/17 New Philadelphia, Ohio "Times Reporter" newspaper.

The Thompson had been purchased by the Tuscarawas, Ohio Sheriff's Department in 1934.

The money raised by this and other firerarms sold by the TSD was used to standardize
their sidearms and purchase at least 2 new sniper rifles.

The initial appraisal value was $37,000, the opening bid was $40,000, and final sale price was $90,000.

The article did not note if the buyer has to get the special federal license to own it.

The above link is from the same newspaper and details 2 of the TSD's most recent sniper rifles. The link about
the Thompson said that money from that sale purchased 1 sniper rifle. This 2nd link says that the $10,500 cost
of the 2 new sniper rifles came from drug money seizures.
