22 hornet barrel length

#1

Post by Zombified »

I have a savage model 25 walking varminter in 22 hornet that I would like to shorten and thread the barrel. From the factory it comes with a 22 inch barrel with a 1 in 14 twist rate. I have tried searching for information on optimal barrel length and bullet velocities but can't seem to find what I'm looking for. My thought was to cut it down to 16.5 inches and thread it for suppressor use. Does anyone know where I can find out if I lose significant velocity by shortening my barrel by 5.5 inches and will it dramatically affect accuracy? Does anyone have experience with this particular rifle at the proposed barrel length?
