ABC 13 - Business owner requiring all employees to be armed

#1

Post by Steve5115 »

GRIFFIN, GA (KTRK) --
A Georgia business owner is now requiring that all his employees get a concealed carry handgun permit -- and be armed while on the clock.

Lance Toland and Associates provides risk management services to aircraft insurers.

Toland tells local station WSB reports about crime prompted his decision to require all that all his employees carry a weapon.

Once his employees get their licenses, he gives them a Taurus Judge, a pistol that has a rifled barrel and is sometimes called a "hand cannon."

Toland says all his aviation insurance agencies carry the guns openly in the office.

Employee Andrea Van Buren supports the decision, saying "You're willing to commit to training, commit to becoming an expert on the firearm, and -- also you have to commit to be ready to use it if you have to."

Toland told WSB he thinks several high-profile business owners with private planes may soon follow his lead and require their employees to carry guns, as well.

Sounded pretty good until the part about the Judge.

I still bust out laughing at the gun store clerk who took me for a fool while telling me all about the fantastic Judge. Said he had one, none better for blowing bad guy heads clean off.

They do look impressive to the uninformed. Maybe that is the main plan for this business's idea.

I applaud the initiative, but the gun supplied makes me cringe. I wonder if you can substitute a serious defensive pistol for actual daily carry?

So many better options than the Judge, especially for new carriers.

Why not a nice Chiappa Rhino, 1911, or Glock 19?

I hesitated to respond, but you can't really put the Rhino in the same category as a 1911 or a Glock 19. My experience with the Rhino is it's not really superior to the Judge. I was initially interested in one because of the low barrel axis, but after feeling the trigger on one, I'll be waiting for something to come out with a decent trigger on it. It's not much better than the Judge.

Let's see.

A gun guy's dream.

Employer mandated carry and he furnishes the gun.

But, let's criticize the gun choice while ignoring everything else.

Unbelievable.

Well, I don't disagree with the mandate, and that's a boring talking point if everyone in the thread agrees with the business owner.
Keep calm and carry.

I don't know about y'all, but I'll take a free judge. Heck, I've considered paying for one, I think it's a neat gun. I agree it would be a pain to carry though.

It's so effective that ammo is not needed.

A buddy of mine has a Judge revolver. To me, it's main limitation is the 5-shot capacity. On the other hand, from what I read most encounters with gun-totin' criminals involve no more than four shots fired total by both parties. This, of course, excludes gang and terrorist activities. But if your primary concern is getting robbed, a Judge is probably pretty effective. You can load it with .410 shot, but it also shoots .45 Long Colt which is pretty potent. The gun is also dead simple to operate and it's reliable.

I'm not saying that I plan to buy one, I don't. But if was free and I had nothing else, I'd be pretty pleased to carry one.

There's lots of ballistic testing for the Judge on YouTube.

Personally, I'd prefer giving employees a choice between a G19 or a G26, along with a proper holster and gun belt.

Also allow employees to carry their POW (Privately Owned Weapon) if they prefer.

Team outings to the range every other Friday followed by BBQ at my house.

Damn, I need to win the lotto so I can buy a business.
