Just a cautionary tale - be careful not to feed the trolls.

I used to visit, daily, a blog that was full of eclectic, intellectually-challenging material. It had a strong focus on tech and was sometimes silly. I could ignore the generally leftist politics of the people that ran the place. They were open about their beliefs but tolerant of other viewpoints.

Then they got interested in the nexus of tech and firearms. Toss in a little politics, mix with a chief moderator who deliberately stirred up dissent and flames rather than do anything to keep the place civil, and suddenly they had some very long exchanges, many of them heated.

Page views went up noticeably. Cha-ching! They'd hit on a new formula and it was working.

My comments that had previously always passed moderation with no problem got deleted within minutes of posting. Mind you, anyone posting a pro-2A viewpoint who sounded like a paranoid loon was allowed to post as much as they wanted without interference. If you liked guns and calmly, rationally presented your views, however, you simply disappeared.

As much as I loved the place and most of the content, I haven't visited the site for over a year until today. I brought it up to see how they covered the defeat of the bills that they (I'm sure) all privately supported. Guess what? Absolutely nothing on the site about todays votes.

Have pity on the anti-gun shills. They don't have reason on their side so they've got a hard row to hoe. And when reason prevails, as it did today, they have no adequate words since they have no adequate reasons.

Sucks to be them, poor things.

HuffPo is blaming filibuster rules and the way the Senate is comprised of two senators from each state as the reason this failed.

Really? The Senate was intentionally set up that way so the smaller States couldn't get steamrolled by the larger States.

FTA:
Wednesday's vote on expanding background checks for gun sales would have led to headlines in many other countries about a landslide victory. After all, 55-45 is not a particularly close vote.

That wide margin was achieved on background checks despite the unequal distribution of Senate votes, which are allocated two to a state regardless of population, thereby giving disproportionate power to rural areas that tend to oppose gun legislation.
I guess it's true that Lefties have a problem with the Constitution.

There it is. My mother's commie boyfriend thinks our Constitution is the source of our problems, and that government could fix them all, if we'd just let them.

I'm hoping members are being extra cautious with some brand new members with seemingly harmless, or intriguing introductions. Handle with care, or stand back and watch before jumping in to quick. It seems to be obvious in a lot of places, but it's too easy to get caught in their snare.
