U of H Offers Teachers Helpful Tips For How to Not Get Murdered

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

U of H Offers Teachers Helpful Tips For How to Not Get Murdered

Post by Vol Texan »

http://gawker.com/university-of-houston ... 1760820174

From the article:
Some faculty at the University of Houston appear concerned over what the new law might mean for their safety, so the school recently presented the following Powerpoint slide that suggests ways in which teachers may reduce their chances of being murdered by their students.

You may want to:
  • Be careful discussing sensitive topics
  • Drop certain topics from your curriculum
  • Not “go there” if you sense anger
  • Limit student access off hours
I don't have words enough to describe this idiocy. I'm so glad my higher education days are long behind me.
Your best option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
When those fail, aim for center mass.

Wow... gotta love the mis-information.
Beginning Aug. 1, Texans who legally own guns (so, all of them) will be able to carry their concealed weapons on the campuses of the state’s public universities.
More "doom and gloom" implication of "all these crazy gun-totin' Texans will have guns in the classrooms!" The implication being there will be shootouts in the class rooms over wrong looks, bad grades or disagreements in ideology. How hard is it for people to understand that only those who are LICENSED by the State will LEGALLY have guns?

What's so stupid about these people is that their students can legally carry pepper spray right now and they aren't shooting theses teachers with that over bad grades.

Here's another one for them:
  • Stop worrying about how everything "feels" - Take a class on critical thinking.
Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence. - John Adams

Another reason that one should think really hard before spending his money on university for himself or his children. For the most part universities and college faculties are no longer composed of intelligent people; they are staffed with fearful, indoctrinated, emotional cripples. You might still get some good out of the engineering schools, but that's about it.

If Straus's opponent wants an issue, he should delve into Straus's support for universities that propagate such nonsense and why he threw such a fit when Regents such as Wallace (I think that's his name) try to actually do their jobs. It is not only 2A, but colleges and universities are also anti-1A as well, and have institutionalized the indoctrination of mental illnesses as political theory (see: modern feminism).

Check out The Foundation for individual Right's ratings of Texas campuses for free speech, and click on the links to see why they got these rating.

They really have become appalling places and I see no effort in our Legislature to correct this.

Note, this is not the University, but the Faculty Senate. Sure, the two are obviously linked, but this one appears to be made up of the teachers, not the administrators.

Amazing. Here is a link to the actual PowerPoint presentation used by the Faculty Senate.

Presented like a bunch of petulant, spoiled children.

But then again, what can you expect from such an organization. Here is where they show their bias:

Vol Texan - Thanks for the link! Interesting reading.

Their arguments [last page] are pretty pathetic.

Some of the comments reminded me of Leno's jaywalking segments.
