CHL carry on public transportation?

#1

Post by roninatx »

What is the law on CHL public transportation such as buses, trains, trolleys, DART, The T, etc. ? Are there any court decisions, renderings, opinions, or state statues, or even city ordinances against CHL carry? Any opinions would help. Thanks in advance everybody.

Greyhound can probably post 30.06 if they want but government owned transit in Texas seems to be covered by 30.06e.

CHL doesn't allow carry on airlines, even for in state flights.

Houston Metro cannot restrict...

Riding other forms of transportation buslines, like Greyhound, and other interstate services, you'd have to look into the route, and other states laws to make sure you are following their laws...

It is very unlikely you are going to get much cooperation from the bus driver if you tell them you have to stop to disarm, unload and stow (secure) your firearm before you cross state lines that do not support your right to carry... ;-)

Trains are probably the same way, but they are more regulated, a little more like an airline...But I've never been on a train...So I do not know for sure...

Airlines are obviously the most regulated, and the rules each airline follows are their own...

Bottom line, do the research, follow the carriers rules, be aware of any changes that will effect because of the route you are taking (state laws)...

And remember this...Just because you may be good to go in a state you are in at the time...Some transportation services employees may not be hip to the idea (regardless of the rules and the laws of that state), and may cause you some embarrasment, and be abrasive to you about the issue...Just remember to be cool and roll with it as best you can...

I took a training course with a DART officer and he "recommended" carrying. ;-)

I know I feel much better while waiting at the station and even on the train if I just happen to have my little friend riding with me. Prior to getting my CHL, I had two separate incidents while riding Dart. First was dealing with a crazy lady who felt that she owned at least half of the car we were riding in and was very vocal about her beliefs. The second was at the Reunion Arena station when 4 punks started working the "hey mister, I need some money" routine. Both incidents were defused before they got too serious but I would have felt much better had I been carrying.
