#1

Post by Zinho »

Good Evening Guys,
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to check the status of my CHL app?

I sent in my renewal by certified mail Feb 11th. They received it Feb 13th. It showed up on the website today, Feb 26th, that they had received it.

Took renewal class Feb 3rd.
Mailed CHL-100 to DPS by certified mail Feb 11th.
DPS received it Feb 13th.
DPS website status Feb 26th - Application Received.
DPS website status March 02 - License Mailed!
CHL actually mailed March 05 per postmark on envelope
Received in my mail box March 07th
24 days door-to-door :anamatedbanana

Much better than the 60+ days for my initial CHL.

It wasn't the same thrill as receiving my first CHL, but it was a
good feeling to get it.

BTW they used my old CHL photo, not the one from my Texas DL.

Do I need a renewal WallyWalk?

I am not getting any status updates and it has been a couple of weeks since mailing in the checklist. Is this normal? This is what I get when I use the link posted above;

Choose Service

CHL APPLICATION STATUS: If you have a pending CHL application, please allow sufficient time for processing. If you have not already done so, please submit all of the items listed on the checklist you received. DPS will notify you by mail if further information or additional documents are required.
Start Application

Select the application you would like to complete at this time.

Apply for Instructor Certification (to teach CHL courses)

I believe the online status tool is not working at the present time.

So the normal response of the following is still there after almost a month and a half:

LICENSE APPLICATION STATUS: If you have a pending License to Carry a Handgun application, please allow sufficient time for processing. If you have not already done so, please submit all of the items listed on the checklist you received. DPS will notify you by mail if further information or additional documents are required.

BUT today it now has these options that were not here before at all:
Change Information
Change residential address
Change mailing address
Change contact information
Report lost license
Report stolen license

Does anyone know if this means something? I figure they wouldn't give the options to update your license if they had not already approved yours.... but who knows with this system...

Thank you for the quick response. I figured that's what it meant.... I just wish they would flat out say "License Approved and in the Mail"
They just like to keep us guessing until the plastic comes in like an unexpected Christmas present!!

We could have been in the same class. I'm a month and a half in the wait as well but don't yet see the additional options that would indicate my application is approved. In addition I wrote an email to just to ask if they could confirm that my application documents had been received. A few minutes later I received a reply that said please allow sufficient time for us to process your request (to answer my email inquiry). That was four days ago, so I guess that's not yet sufficient time to process my request. I can understand the wait with the surge in applicants. I just wish that, in the age of technology, the communication process were a reflection of that reality.

It's now been 9 days since my email inquiry about my status was sent and the auto reply asked me to "please allow sufficient time for us to process your request". Of course, that's the same language you get when you login and try to check status. So it's now clear to me that the time it takes from application to approval of your license is exactly "sufficient time".
