What do you think is not accurate or missing from this story
Tragic story for sure. Apparently a "holstered gun" fell to the ground and "went off" killing the gun owner's sister.

I suspect there's something reported incorrectly or not being reported at all.

It sure sounds funky, but there were several witnesses. What's missing is what type of gun and how old it is. It's probably not too old. Maybe a malfunction? Just have to wait and see, I guess. IDK!

If you freeze-frame the news video at the 1:20 mark, you can see a police officer
holding the firearm in one hand and taking closeup pictures of it.
The gun appears to be a black semi-automatic, but beyond that, I couldn't ID brand/model.

I'd bet a donut that the gun started falling, the idiot brother tried to catch it while falling, and the booger hook wrapped around the bang switch with unpleasant results.

But that is not what the story says ?Scott in Houston wrote:Tragic story for sure. Apparently a "holstered gun" fell to the ground and "went off" killing the gun owner's sister.

"The pistol fell out of the holster. When it hit the ground, it discharged one time, hitting the sister in the head and it killed her instantly,"

When detectives start to question the witnesses seperately, they will probably find out what really happened.C-dub wrote:It sure sounds funky, but there were several witnesses. Without knowing what kind of gun, it's hard to say. I guess it's possible it happened like they say but there are a couple more likely scenarios, especially when the story starts with a holstered gun held in someone's hands.

I just got back from the range. It is amazing how hard it is to hit the target when your aiming.
But just drop the gun on the ground and it hits someone in the head and kills them with one shot.

I hope I never hear a BANG when I expect a click, nor hear a click when I expect a BANG.Dragonfighter wrote:The clackity clack is a sickening sound but not as bad as "BANG!"
But back to my original hypothesis. It's been wondering around in the back of my mind, and here is what is bothering me. It is hard to visualize how one could actuate a trigger while trying to grab a falling gun in such a way that the muzzle ends up pointing upwards to hit someone in the head.

Not that hard to visualize. Gun is falling muzzle up...person reaches out and grabs gun, palm up, with second through fourth fingers under the grip, and thumb slipping into the trigger guard. The person will naturally clinch his/her hand in order to secure the gun, and the gun goes "boom".

Re: What do you think is not accurate or missing from this s
The moral of this story is to always wear a good quality holster that will retain the gun. I'd bet that his "holster" was some one-size-fits-all piece of junk that was too big for the gun. If it had a strap, I would bet that he wasn't using it.

I also think that the owner went to grab the gun on the way down and accidentally grab the trigger.
Went I can't figure out is how it fell out of the holster

I'm deninately of the mind that modern firearms do not go off just because they were dropped.
Nevertheless, a horrible tragedy.
