If you get the Keller Citizen (they won't stop throwing it on my driveway - I've asked). . . you'd know from the police blotter that somebody is arrested for shoplifting at least once a week at the Keller Kohl's. I guess the new-generation crooks aren't reading the paper. . . or there's a lot of uncaught theft going on.

:banghead:

If they jack with the jewelry, perfume, or a few other areas, they can escalate the dollar value (and thus, the classification of the crime) quickly. If they even threaten harm against an employee on the way out it can become robbery. If they pick something up and threaten somebody it can be aggravated robbery before they know it.

In general (assuming no priors):
Class C Misdemeanor: Theft under $50
Class B Misdemeanor: Theft between $50 and $500
Class A Misdemeanor: Theft between $500 and $1,500
State jail felony: Theft between $1,500 and $20,000

. . . I'd assume most thefts from Kohl's start out at Class B Misdemeanors and the greedy ones can get to a Class A pretty quick.

IMO, grabbing for somebody's gun is the same as already having one. . . time to engage.

I'm really surprised that shoplifters would bother with Kohl's. Kohl's basically sells marked-down last-year's fashions.

Shoplifters tend to go for things like overpriced name-brand sunglasses, electronics, and leather jackets. Many of them work in groups that are literally organized crime - and pretty successful. They do things like taking merchandise and passing it off to their "coworkers" with the skill of James Randi.

Maybe stupid first-time shoplifters go to Kohl's, and that's why they get caught.

Surprisingly Kohl's suffers heavy losses from shoplifters. Their merchandise is not marked down last years fashions. They sell sell jeans, shoes. small appliances, electronics, jewelry, etc. A close friend used to be the District Manager for north Texas and he indicated their Loss Prevention Team has a substantial amount of theft annually that they deal with.

I know I use http://www.crimreports.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and a neighborhood Kohl's near me shows 15 events at that store alone in the past 6 months. And those are the ones that they knew about, doesn't include shortages in merchandise that they are not sue where it went (when or with who.)

I stand corrected.

Kohl's moved into the area where I lived about 20 years ago. IIRC they bought a regional chain that had gone bankrupt and rebranded the stores. It seemed like what I described, and I didn't bother going there after that.

They're probably somewhere between Target and JC Penney's nowadays. . . just expensive enough for a shoplifter to unwittingly earn an elevated charge!
