Emailing CHL Paperwork??

#1

Post by guera »

Howdy,

New to this forum & CHL. I almost have all my paperwork ready. Finger printing on Friday....

Is there a way to electronically send in my paperwork: i.e. CHL-100, CHL-6, FAST receipt, and Checklist??

I read a few posts that said it was possible, but could not find any instructions or an email address...

One more question: The number below the "barcode" on my checklist. I know it has significance, what is the number called? Is it my CHL application #???? Is it a good idea to write this number down on my paper work before I send in??

Your comments/suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,
Guerra

Welcome! There may be some workaround to be able to email your application & info, but I'm not sure how well it actually works. I would mail it unless the DPS website is updated to include instructions on emailing. Make copies of everything that you send to the DPS. According to my instructor, the DPS is asking applicants to not send information with a signature confirmation. But I sent mine reciept-requested anyway because I wanted to make sure that it was indeed received. It was also easier to track on the USPS website by sending it that way.

To email your documents, scan them into your computer as word, pdf, jpg, etc files and fill out the "contact us" form (email) found here:
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/contact/default.aspx

It is quicker and easier.

I was under the impression that online submittal was for renewals only, and new applications are required to mail them in? :confused5

Ah ok thanks! I took my class more than a year ago so I am a bit out of date.

I'd be interested to see how this work-around actually works. Anybody that's tried it, please let us know what happened???

I am going to give it a try, and submit electronically. Esp. since I will be keeping all of the original paperwork.

I figure if they do not acknowledge the receipt of the electronic documents within a week or so, I will simply mail the original hardcopies.

I figured, worst case I lose a couple weeks, best case I am ahead of the game…

Since I am not 100% sure about sending my docs in electronically. I figured I would go ahead and send the following msg to the above"contact us" link and ask the question:

"May I submit electronic copies of my CHL supporting documentation: i.e. CHL-100, CHL-6, FAST receipt, and Checklist using this address??"

I will let you know what they reply...

When I did mine by mail, it took about 2 weeks for my online status to reflect that the DPS had actually received my packet. Total mailbox to mailbox time was 8/14 to 9/22.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Received a one word reply from TxDPS, Regulatory Services Division, Customer Service Representative: "YES"..

I sent my msg just before lunch, and got a reply in 30min. The prompt reply makes me think someone is actually watching this mail box... I take that as good sign..

I electronically submitted my CHL Checklist, CHL FAST receipt, CHL-6, & CHL-100 this morning using the above "contact us" link.

I did however have an issue w/ the attachment file size. At first I tried uploading a large file and I got a "run time error". I reduced the file size and got it to uploaded fine.

Now let the waiting begin..

Now that you seem to have cleared that hurdle, time to start thinking about how you plan to carry. Practice dressing around your gun inside your home so you can get accustomed to wearing & moving. Part of concealment is not looking like you're concealing. If you don't have all of your gear (GUN belt, holster, bigger clothes, mag carriers, etc), now would be a good time to start researching & buying.
